Beaches in Mayotte

N'Gouja is the most popular and beautiful beache of Mayotte, located on the southern edge of this island in the Indian Ocean, which is an overseas territory of France. This is the coastline most often depicted on postcards and in the island's guidebooks. They come here for the sake of rest on the background of paradise landscapes, exotic eco-tourism and unforgettable diving. This beach is the ideal place for novice divers who want to get in touch with the unique underwater world of coral reefs.

Moya is a tropical beach on the eastern side of the Pamandzi Island. Moya is a wild beach. There are no shops, sun loungers, bars, sunscreen umbrellas, and other benefits of civilization. But 3 km away is Dzaoudzi, the third most populous city in Mayotte. There are supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, hotels, car repair shops, and large markets.

Mliha is a sandy beach located in the west coast of Mayotte Island. It is adjacent to dense forests, a large village and a well-equipped football field. The facilities near the beach include:

• small hotel with welcoming staff;
• Creole restaurant with cozy terraces;
• grocery stores and souvenir shops.

Ilot de Sable Blanc is a sandy beach located a few kilometers southeast of Mayotte. It is located on a barrier reef and lacks infrastructure. They come here to dive, snorkel, rest from the hustle and bustle. The local beach is suitable for family vacation due to the clean water, smooth depths, mainly calm weather.

Saziley is a national park, located on the southeast of the Mayotte Island. There are several large beaches on its territory. Some of them are covered with white sand, others have black surface. There is also a paradise sandy island with a perfectly flat surface.

Sohoa is a large sandy beach. A tropical forest grows along the entire line of the coast, which saves from the heat and saturates the air with spicy scents. Sohoa is not very crowded, however, the infrastructure is well developed: there are picnic arbours and comfortable benches on its territory, and there is restaurant, cafe, mini-market and a football field nearby.

Bambo Ouest is a sandy beach located in the western part of Mayotte Island. Its length exceeds 400 m, and its width is 100 meters. Nearby is the village of the same name. There are shops, souvenir kiosks and a beautiful coffee shop («Quartier Latin»), hidden in the shade of the trees.

Tahiti is a sandy beach on the west coast of the Mayotte Island, surrounded by tropical forest. It has a small size (300 m in length and up to 30 m in width), a smooth depth difference, crystal clear waters. There are 2 cafes open until the evening and a small parking lot on its territory.

Gouéla is located on the west coast of the Mayotte Island. It has a quiet and tranquil atmosphere, soft black sand and a wide shore that reaches 50 meters. The main attraction of this place are underwater reefs. Moray eels, anemonefish, blue surgeons, and dozens of other beautiful fish inhabit there. At the bottom there are strangle algae, sea turtles, and interesting minerals. Hundreds of divers come to Gouéla to see these wonders with their own eyes.

Sakouli Beach is a small beach, located on the central part of the Mayotte Island. It is famous for its soft black and gray sand and strong waves during the trade winds (from July to October). On its territory there are 2 cozy bars offering Creole dishes and soft drinks. Its windows offer magnificent views of the ocean.
