Calvi beach

Calvi is a sandy beach located in the city of the same name. It is distinguished by its large size (more than 6 km in length), picturesque terrain and a smooth increase in depth comparable to the Sea of Azov. There are toilets, sun loungers, changing cabins and rescue towers installed along the shore. It has bars, cafes, food courts, a water transport rental center and a diving school.

Beach description

The beach and sea bottom are covered with snow-white sand, which makes it comfortable to walk barefoot. Perfect cleanliness prevails here – the whole territory is cleaned twice a day.

Calvi is located in a picturesque bay that protects it from large waves and strong winds. From its shore you can enjoy a great view of the Corsican mountains, the houses of the old city and the medieval fortress, built in the XIII century.

The following sightseeings are located near the beach:

  1. Columbus Square is a central part of the city with luxurious houses and beautiful temples;
  2. the Cathedral, a Renaissance architectural monument;
  3. Tour du Sel (Salt Tower) – a powerful fortification that served as part of the island's fortification;
  4. picturesque port with tourist liners, private yachts and fishing boats.

As well as more than 100 other architectural monuments. The city is famous for its narrow streets, Mediterranean colour and excellent cuisine.

Interesting fact: in 1794, Calvy was besieged by Admiral Nelson, England's greatest admiral. He came off with flying colors, but lost his right eye in the battle.

The beach is located in the northwestern part of Corsica Island. You can get here by the following means:

  1. a bus from Bastia – 2-hour trip. Approximate cost: 20 euros;
  2. a bus from Ajaccio – 2.5-hour trip. Approximate cost: 25 euros;
  3. a fast ferry from Nice – gets to city in 2.5 hours. The price depends on the type and size of transport;
  4. a slow ferry from Nice – gets to city in six hours. The price depends on the type and size of transport.

You can also get to Calvi by private transport or taxi.

When is the best time to go?

It is possible to relax in France at any time of the year, the time of the trip depends more on your preferences. Summer - a great time to travel to the sea.
