Grand Capo beach

The beauty of Grand Capo is its simplicity and lack of infrastructure. This beach is the epitome of the wildlife that surrounds the resort town. The surf noise, picturesque panoramas and desert of the Gran Capo provide a unique opportunity to blend in with nature and recharge its energy.

Beach description

Gran Capo beach, also known among the locals as "Saint Antoine", is the pride of Ajaccio. This beautiful large beach boasts fine yellow sand with shimmering golden overflows and endless turquoise waters of the Mediterranean Sea, merging with the sky to form a single whole on the horizon. Surrounded by hills, the Grand Capo has preserved its natural beauty untouched by man. Only a couple of huts with drinks and snacks remind us that this is not a deserted island. It consists of a large coast of two beaches separated by a field:

  • "Gran Capo" is a popular beach among tourists and residents;
  • "Little Capo" is a less famous place, more often the locals rest on this beach.

Many call this beach untapped because of the high and violent waves that attract surfers from all over the world. In seasons where the sea is calm, the Grand Capo is comfortable and safe to swim. To see if it is possible to swim, a special flag is hung on the beach, signalling the safety of the waters. By the way, the left side of the Grand Capo is for nudists.

Gran Capo can be reached by car or taxi, public transport rarely runs in this direction. The distance from Ajaccio to the beach is 11 km.

Useful information

The sign before the beach entrance says: "Welcome to the Paradise." And it really is, the coast is beautiful any time of year. This beach is a natural treasure, so there are no bars or restaurants on Gran Capo except for the small huts offering drinks and light snacks.

It's better to get to the beach early in the morning: at this time the coast is deserted and the water in the sea is crystal clear. The Capo Grand Prix is rarely overcrowded, but there is an influx of tourists between June and August.

To diversify your beach holiday, we recommend visiting Ajaccio, the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte.
