Rondinara beach

Rondinara Beach is known mostly for the shape of the bay of the same name where it's located. A turquoise horseshoe or a shell surrounded by a blindingly white shore. Such a specific structure of the beach makes it possible to sit by the calm warm waters under the protection of the picturesque rocks surrounding this bowl. One of the most popular places in Corsica is somewhere between Porto-Vecchio and Bonifacio.

Beach description

The beach is accessed by a winding road that runs through the tiny village of Suartone stretching on a mountain slope. If you're going in the off-season, it won't take long to get there. The slope allows you to observe the whole area from a height. The image is impressive. You can clearly see the rich palette of rocks, green meadows close to the beach, wooded slopes with shrubs and cork trees.

The main beach is sandy, usually crowded and located right behind the parking lot. It's protected from the strong wind by the surrounding rocks. If you go a little north, bypassing the rocky water ledges, you can reach more secluded and deeper beaches, the bottom of which is in the pebbles. But this isn't a place for babies, it's more for experienced swimmers.

You can't say that Rondinara is easily accessible, especially for Europeans who are used to smooth highways. The places here are much wilder than the Cote d'Azur. But in summer a lot of people rush to this beauty, creating traffic jams on a narrow road. What attracts travellers from different countries to Rondinara Beach:

  • you can rent a straw umbrella, mattress or other beach equipment;
  • right on the beach there's a restaurant where you can have breakfast or dinner, a cafe offers refreshing drinks, ice cream;
  • the sea center offers boats, catamarans, kayaks, and buoys for rent that will allow you to moor your boat somewhere beautiful along the coast;
  1. The beach and parking lot are guarded, still you shouldn't leave valuable things in the car.
  2. Only boat owners have access to the pier.
  3. Working hours – 9.00 am 10.00 pm, if you visit it between 15th of June and 15th of September, a month before the designated date and in the second half of September – until 7.00 pm.
  4. Dogs are allowed, but they must be supervised at all times.

One of the features of Rondinara Beach is the local animals that try to overwhelm the beach goers peacefully soaking up the sun on the sand. Cows walk where they want, and also take sunbathing next to people.

Useful information

  1. It won't be a problem to get to the Rondinara Beach with a car and no fear of difficulties in the form of a narrow and curved track. The nearest cities with extensive road networks are Bonifacio and Porto-Vecchio.
  2. When going to the beach, you need to take everything you need with you, especially when it comes to the off-season. If you need, for example, drinking water, you won't be able to get it anywhere in a nature reserve in the middle where Rondinara is located.
  3. The beach, most often in more remote small bays, has a lot of algae, which creates some difficulties during swimming. The large volume of marine vegetation and boats also makes snorkeling difficult. But vegetation is not removed because it helps to restore ecology.
  4. When walking on the shoals, small bays with rocky ledges away from the central beach, it's desirable to wear shoes for swimming. The bare feet are easy to hurt on sharp rocks.
  5. The beauty and health of nature is very much cherished here. That's why you shouldn't throw food leftovers, beer cans or plastic splinters of anything in the water. It's recommended to use the sunscreen products not before but after swimming, the substances contained in them have a bad effect on the sea and its inhabitants. Although, it wouldn't be bad to follow these rules not only on the white sands of Corsica.
