Beach description

Saint-François is one of the widest beaches in Ajaccio, located near the city centre. The coast is nestled next to an ancient citadel and port, which are popular among holidaymakers. It attracts both locals and tourists not only with its spacious beach but also with a beautiful boulevard surrounded by tall, shady palm trees.

The Saint-François coastline is sprinkled with coarse, golden sand. The turquoise waters of the Mediterranean Sea beckon, making you fall in love at first sight. The gentle surf, the lack of waves, and the moderate depths have made this beach a favourite spot for families with young children. Moreover, the water at Saint-François is crystal clear. Adding to the beach's charm is a stone wall, above which lies a boulevard - a favourite spot for evening strolls and morning jogs. By the way, locals say that leaning against this wall can give you a surge of energy.

Despite the fact that Saint-François is within the city limits, the beach hardly ever gets crowded. Its expansive area allows every vacationer to find a spot for privacy. In the evenings, one can witness the romantic and dreamy sunset, which bathes the entire coast in a pink hue under the shimmering sunlight.

When is the best time to go?

The best time to visit Corsica for a beach vacation is typically between May and September, when the Mediterranean climate ensures warm temperatures and minimal rainfall. Here's a breakdown of what to expect:

  • May and June: These months mark the beginning of the beach season, with pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds. The sea might still be a bit cool for swimming, but the weather is ideal for enjoying the sun and exploring the island.
  • July and August: These are the hottest months, perfect for beachgoers looking to bask in the sun and enjoy warm sea temperatures. However, this is also peak tourist season, so expect more crowded beaches and higher prices.
  • September: As the summer crowds dissipate, September offers a more tranquil beach experience. The water remains warm from the summer heat, making it an excellent time for swimming and water sports.

For those seeking a balance between good weather and fewer tourists, late May to early June or September are ideal times for a Corsican beach vacation. Always remember to check the local calendar for events and festivals that might influence your decision on when to visit.
