Beach description
Mouros Beach, nestled 15 km southeast of Hora and a mere 3 km from the quaint village of Kamari, is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Accessible by a scheduled bus, car, or motorcycle, visitors will find a convenient path leading from both the station and the parking lot. A brief 10-minute hike is all it takes to reach this secluded paradise.
Over the past few years, Mouros Beach has seen a surge in popularity, thanks in part to significant improvements. A smooth asphalt road has replaced the former dirt track, making the journey safer and more comfortable. Despite the numerous bends along the way, travelers are rewarded with breathtaking views that make the trip unforgettable.
The beach itself may be compact, but it is dramatically framed by towering white cliffs and lapped by the bay's crystal-clear waters. Mouros Beach's hallmark is the mesmerizing turquoise hue of the sea. While the water entry is generally gentle, visitors should be mindful of the pebbled and rocky sea bottom, a natural consequence of the surrounding mountainous terrain.
Adorned with fine gray pebbles that blend seamlessly with patches of light yellow sand, the beach's landscape is further enhanced by scattered rock formations. These natural sculptures not only captivate the eye but also underscore the raw beauty of nature. Tucked behind these formations are two small caves, perfect for those looking to swim and indulge in snorkeling adventures.
In contrast to Agia Anna, Mouros Beach is a haven for families with children, offering a safe and engaging environment. It also attracts thrill-seekers eager to delve into the enigmatic caves dotting the coastline near Mouros.
Best Time to Visit
-
The best time to visit Amorgos for a beach vacation is during the summer months, specifically from June to September. During this period, the weather is most favorable for beach activities, with warm temperatures and minimal rainfall.
- June: The beginning of summer offers pleasant weather without the peak season crowds. The sea temperature starts to warm up, making it ideal for swimming and snorkeling.
- July & August: These are the hottest months, perfect for sunbathing and enjoying the vibrant island life. However, these are also the busiest months, so expect more tourists and higher prices.
- September: As the summer winds down, the water remains warm, but the crowds dissipate. This is a great time for those seeking a more peaceful beach experience.
Regardless of the month you choose, Amorgos's stunning beaches, such as Agia Anna, Katapola, and Aegiali, offer breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere for an unforgettable beach vacation.

Infrastructure
One of the disadvantages of Muros is the lack of hotels near the beach. The nearest accommodation is located in the village of Kamari. A popular choice is Dioskouri Art Villas. This beautiful and comfortable hotel is equipped with its own parking, restaurant, bar, and pool. The balconies of the rooms offer incredible views of the Aegean Sea. In addition to classic rooms, the hotel also rents apartments.
Muros Beach gained popularity after the repair and expansion of the road leading to it, which also stimulated the development of routes that include a stop at the beach.
While Muros Beach is not equipped with umbrellas and sun loungers, and does not offer rental of beach and sports equipment, it stands out from many other beaches nestled among cliffs by providing stair access to the sea. Despite the fact that the descent and ascent require some effort, they are absolutely safe.
The beach infrastructure is modest but sufficient for a comfortable rest amidst nature untouched by human hands:
- Free parking for cars and motorbikes located next to the beach access;
- A tavern with friendly staff is situated to the left of the parking lot, offering an assortment of light snacks and cold drinks.
An incredible view of the Aegean Sea and the cozy Muros Beach unfolds from this vantage point. Vacationers are drawn to several large cliffs near the coast, which offer diving opportunities into the sea, although this is not recommended for beginners.
