Beach description
Aegialis is situated within a short walking distance from the island village with the same name, near the port of Aigiali, 20 km away from the city of Hora. The journey to the beach is easily accessible, even by public transport.
Aegialis is a rather expansive beach, stretching for at least 1 km. The beach is adorned with soft, golden sand. It is one of the few beaches on the island where algae are present near the shore, but they are sparse and cause no discomfort.
Like other beaches of Amorgos, Aegialis boasts a crystal-clear sea and shore. Despite its popularity among tourists and locals, the beach is seldom overcrowded. Aegialis has become a favored destination for various groups of people:
- Families with children: A well-developed infrastructure and a safe beachfront are the primary considerations when selecting a spot for family leisure;
- Youth: The abundance of taverns and a convenient transport hub are the key attractions for student excursions and gatherings;
- Elderly people: The breathtaking views and proximity to the city are crucial factors when choosing a seaside vacation.
Besides picturesque scenery, shallow waters, and well-developed infrastructure, the beach offers natural shade. Towering pines and tamarisks serve as the true ornaments of Aegialis. These century-old trees, leaning over the beach, provide a pleasant coolness to its visitors.
The beach is especially stunning at sunset, when the sky ignites with hues of golden, bright orange, and red, all of which are mirrored in the sea, imparting a kaleidoscope of colors upon the waters.
When is the best time to go?
The best time to visit Amorgos for a beach vacation is during the summer months, specifically from June to September. During this period, the weather is most favorable for beach activities, with warm temperatures and minimal rainfall.
- June: The beginning of summer offers pleasant weather without the peak season crowds. The sea temperature starts to warm up, making it ideal for swimming and snorkeling.
- July & August: These are the hottest months, perfect for sunbathing and enjoying the vibrant island life. However, these are also the busiest months, so expect more tourists and higher prices.
- September: As the summer winds down, the water remains warm, but the crowds dissipate. This is a great time for those seeking a more peaceful beach experience.
Regardless of the month you choose, Amorgos's stunning beaches, such as Agia Anna, Katapola, and Aegiali, offer breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere for an unforgettable beach vacation.
