Beach description
Kalotaritissa is a tranquil and rather extensive beach, characterized by a smooth and picturesque sandy bay interspersed with several pebble areas. The sparkling sea view is framed by a quaint port for local fishermen's boats. The water entry is gently sloping, with a moderate depth and a very pleasant water temperature that is consistently a few degrees warmer than at other beaches. The crowning jewel of Kalotaritissa is a majestic, oval-shaped stone cape.
While the beach infrastructure is modest, Kalotaritissa boasts a charming beach bar that offers refreshing drinks, delectable seafood, and rentals of sling chairs and umbrellas. Just one kilometer from the beach lies the renowned Navagio Bay, where the Olympia met its fate in a shipwreck caused by strong winds in 1980 while transporting cement from Cyprus to Piraeus. Efforts to salvage the ship were unsuccessful, leaving the vessel to rest in Liverus Bay, where it now provides a unique backdrop for vacation photos.
When is the best time to go?
The best time to visit Amorgos for a beach vacation is during the summer months, specifically from June to September. During this period, the weather is most favorable for beach activities, with warm temperatures and minimal rainfall.
- June: The beginning of summer offers pleasant weather without the peak season crowds. The sea temperature starts to warm up, making it ideal for swimming and snorkeling.
- July & August: These are the hottest months, perfect for sunbathing and enjoying the vibrant island life. However, these are also the busiest months, so expect more tourists and higher prices.
- September: As the summer winds down, the water remains warm, but the crowds dissipate. This is a great time for those seeking a more peaceful beach experience.
Regardless of the month you choose, Amorgos's stunning beaches, such as Agia Anna, Katapola, and Aegiali, offer breathtaking views and a serene atmosphere for an unforgettable beach vacation.
