Grias Pidima beach

Grias Pidima is located in the southeast of the famous island. The beach is popular with tourists, first of all, for its interesting legend, as well as a very characteristic landscape. Not everyone can get to him; he is in a remote place. Travelers will meet here many natural beauties and the lack of familiar beach amenities.

Beach description

The bright beach beach blueness and random cliffy high points of Grias To Pidima are located northwards from Ormos. The distance from Gavrio port is a bit less than 40 km, and from the capital, it is 23 km.

Everyone who comes here rushes to capture himself/herself against the background or a rock rising above the tide. Perhaps, it was its skyline that gave birth to legends told by the locals. The most popular of them tells how, during the Ottoman conquests, one old woman asked for refuge in the castle Kohilos, inaccessible to the Turks due to its high rocky walls.

The old woman and her pregnant daughter were hidden in the fortress, and when night came down, she opened the gate to the enemy. The citadel was captured, and and old woman, ashamed of her deed, went to her account by jumping down from the rock. Since then, a petrified stature has been rising above the water, and each tourist holds it a duty to take a picture with it.

The beach in this small legendary bay is rather narrow, and covered with fine sand mixed with pebbles. East winds visit the shore. There are no facilities, and it is impossible to drive close to the beach. Sightseers use boats to get here, or drive by Gialos and Saint Catherine paths, and then go down the high-grade stony path. although the beach itself is shallow and suitable for family recreation, such access routes can stop some parents.

Tourists will have to think over the convenient accommodation on the beach, to take meals with them if they plan to stay for long because the beach doesn't have any sling chairs or bars.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
