Kampos beach

The beach is located on the northern coast of Ikaria next to a small village of the same name. The island's capital, Agios Kirikos, is about forty kilometers away, and can be reached by car or by bus. A few kilometers west there is the port of Evdilos, the second largest on the island. Ships depart from it to mainland Piraeus, as well as to the islands of Mykonos, Naxos and Paros. Evdilos is connected to Campos by a road along which you can see the numerous ruins of ancient buildings and walls.

Beach description

Kamposa beach is considered one of the largest and most comfortable beach on the island. The beachline is covered with white sand mixed with fine pebbles. The sea is relatively shallow and warm, with an amazing turquoise shade. Entrance to the water is gentle and safe, without sudden changes in relief.

The beach could be considered ideal for vacation with kids, if it wasn't for the insidious sea currents passing by the shore. They create certain inconveniences for vacationers, so there are special markers on the shore, warning about the danger. Comfortable bathing areas are fenced with buoys, the beach is monitored from the lifeguard towers.

There is a river delta in the eastern part of the beach, which originates in the mountains surrounding the village. It forms small lakes framed by heavy greenery. Here you can hide from the midday heat, organize a picnic and even set up a tent camp.

Campos is equipped with umbrellas and sun loungers, toilets, showers and changing cabins. Sports grounds and children's camps with inflatable slides and trampolines have been installed. On the beach you can have fun on water attractions and rent sport equipment.

there are beach bars and snacks bars along the shore where you can satisfy your hunger and freshen up with refreshing drinks. Free parking is available in the western part of the beach.

In the Byzantine era, Campos was called Dolikhi and was the largest settlement on the island. The remains of an ancient city built in the 1st century A.D.have survived to these days. The surroundings of Campos are famous for their fertile soils, which are ideal for growing grapes. Many centuries ago, the legendary vine of Dionysus was first ascended here, from which the world-famous Pramnian wine was made.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
