Beach description
Welcome to Livadi Beach, a serene paradise nestled in the northern reaches of Ikaria, within the charming resort area of Armenistis. Situated 48 km northwest of Agios Kirikos, the island's capital, Livadi Beach is a picturesque expanse of long, sandy shores. The flat shore and bottom provide an inviting entrance to the crystalline waters of the bay, which is cradled by lush greenery. This verdant backdrop not only enhances the scenic beauty but also offers a canopy of natural shade for beachgoers.
For those venturing down from the west side of the path, a hidden gem awaits - a secluded, small sandy cove known as "Ammoudaki." This intimate spot promises a tranquil retreat from the more frequented areas of the beach.
Livadi Beach is particularly beloved by families, thanks to its soft sand, gentle incline, and shallow waters that ensure a safe environment for children. Parents can take comfort in the security of the setting, allowing them to unwind without the need to vigilantly watch over their little ones.
While the presence of waves and wind is a sporadic delight, strong gusts are a rarity, ensuring that the beach is often caressed by nothing more than warm, gentle breezes. The occasional waves that dance upon the water's surface make Livadi Beach an idyllic spot for enthusiasts of water sports.
Optimal Visiting Times
The best time to visit Ikaria for a beach vacation is during the summer months, when the weather is most favorable for enjoying the island's stunning coastlines and crystal-clear waters. Here's a breakdown of the optimal period:
- June to September: This is the peak season for beachgoers. The temperatures are warm, typically ranging from 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F), making it perfect for swimming and sunbathing.
- July and August: These are the hottest months, with the most extended daylight hours, ideal for those looking to maximize their time on the beach. However, these months can also be the busiest, so be prepared for more crowded spaces.
- Early June and Late September: For visitors seeking a quieter experience, these times offer a more peaceful atmosphere while still providing pleasant weather suitable for beach activities.
Regardless of the specific month, Ikaria's beaches offer a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural experiences, with the added benefit of the island's famous longevity lifestyle. Just remember to book accommodations in advance during the high season to secure the best spots!
