Seychelles beach

Located on the southern coast of Ikaria and is considered to be the most picturesque beach on the island, as its name eloquently testifies. Seychelles beach is among the top ten paradise beaches hidden from prying eyes according to the British edition of Stylist and takes the honorable seventh line between the Mexican Playa del Amor and the Caribbean Point of Sand. It became accessible by land quite recently, when during a landslide in the rocks a natural tunnel formed along which a road was laid from the village of Magganitis. Until this time, the beach could only be reached by boat.

Beach description

Seychelles beach is lurking in a small cozy bay, safely hidden from stranger's eyes by steep layered rocks. To get to it by land, you have to follow the road east of the village of Magganitis. If you park the car by the side of the road, you'll have to go down a steep rocky path for about tem minutes. Therefore, those wishing to visit the Greek Seychelles should carefully evaluate their physical abilities (because backwards there will be even more difficult a ascent), take care of comfortable sports shoes and stock up on water, food and necessary beach equipment.

The most important thing is not to forget equipment for snorkeling and diving because the coastal cliffs are literary covered with various caves, and the sea is so transparent that all marine life is visible in the palm of your hand. The shore is covered with fine pebbles, but at the bottom there are large slippery stones. They like to hide sea urchins and other dangerous representatives of marine fauna, so do not hurt special rubber shoes.

The beach is not organized, only a tiny cafe on the beach and a few sun loungers by it. In order not to get sunburned, you should come in the afternoon or take care of umbrellas or sheds yourself. Just in case, you should grab a first aid kit.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

Useful information

Tourists staying in the village of Magganitis can appreciate the local beaches of Firodi and Gialos, especially when the sea is stormy, and a boat trip to Seychelles beach is not possible. Also noteworthy is the picturesque fishing harbor, where you can rent a yacht or boat and go on sea fishing.

Special diving tours are organized to it, which will surely interest lovers of such exotics.

According to legend, it was in these places that the body of Icarus was found and buried, to which his father Daedalus made improvised wings. The young man was so carried away by the flight that he rose too close to the Sun, which melted the wax holding the structure together. He fell from a great height into the sea and crashed, and waves carried his body to the island, which was later called Ikaria.
