Glass Gulf beach

Glass Gulf is a unique place in the Ussuri Bay of Vladivostok, which is the result of human pollution of the coast, but without a negative effect. Many tourists and visitors come to the Glass Gulf rather than for a beach holiday, as because of the opportunity to admire the shimmering sand in the sun, mixed with pieces of colored glass, which gave the name to this coast.

Beach description

The coast of the Glass Gulf is a mixture of dark sand, colored pebbles and pieces of broken glass and porcelain. The latter appeared here because of a nearby dump, the bottles of which were washed up on the shore of the Gulf by the sea. Breaking on the coastal rocks, pieces of glass mixed with the beach sand and pebbles, forming a specific coating of the coast, shimmering multicolored highlights in the sun.

The length of the beach is about 700 m, and its width is about 15 m. As the place has become very popular among tourists, since 2011 the local authorities have seriously engaged in the improvement of the coast for recreation. The coast here is periodically cleaned of garbage. A number of other factors also make this beach attractive, including:

  • protection of the coast from strong winds due to the surrounding rocks on both sides;
  • located on the left side of the beach inclined rock slabs, going under the water, it is an ideal place for sunbathing;
  • clean sand and waves turned pieces of glass, which allows you to safely walk here even barefoot (but it is better to do it in shoes, you never know what can get caught, in addition to glass fragments).

Picturesque rocks of bizarre shapes combined with an unusual coating of the shore make these places popular among lovers of romantic photo shoots. Many vacationers just like to leisurely stroll along the coast, looking at the unusual shape of shards of glass coming underfoot, pieces of porcelain with curious patterns and colored pebbles.

Swimming in the Gulf is also possible, which is usually a pleasure and do the locals. Entering the water here is quite gentle, serious depth begins only 15 m from the shore. The bottom is covered with small pebbles with polished sea glass fragments. The main disadvantage of the beach is quite crowded and noisy in peak season.

When is the best to go?

The best time to relax on the Far East coast is July and August. At this time, the temperature of water and air reaches maximum levels: about + 20°C on ground and slightly lower in the ocean. Summer in Primorye is rather short and foggy, especially in the southern regions - the humidity there is much higher, which also contributes to a comfortable rest.
