Long Beach

Long Beach, or Pra Ae, is the longest beach on the island, located near Klong Dao Beach and a big picturesque park with shady alleys, a pong, lawns, gazebos and playgrounds. Casuarina groves are located very close to the beach, with palms and other trees rarely mixed in. Two narrow rivers flow from both north and south sides of the beach.

Beach description

Long Beach, over 5 km in length, is covered in light grainy sand. There are some patches of stone, where snorkeling enthusiasts like to spend their time. The descent is smooth. The water is clean and transparent. Walking barefoot on the coast and shallow water feels very nice. Some parts of the beach have uneven depth.

Long Beach is very popular, but due to its length many visitors can comfortably stay here. You can also find both empty spots and lively places with many children. Umbrellas, sunbeds, showers and toilets are all available here. An especially nice place to relax at is near the park, where you can play football or volleyball, sit in the shadows on the lawn or set up a picnic. A small parking lot is located near the park.

When is it better to go

The period from November to March is considered the high season in Thailand. Comfortable air temperature, as well as minimal rainfall create optimal conditions for a beach holiday.

Infrastructure

Where to stop

The infrastructure on Long Beach isn't as well-developed as on the nearby Klong Dao Beach, but there are more fashionable hotels with well-kept areas along the coast here. Hotels and guest houses of lower prices can also be found in Long Beach's surroundings.

Where to eat

Restaurants, bars and cafes serving Thai and international cuisine are located along the beach. Mobile kitchen trailers belonging to the locals can also be encountered on the beach, they serve newly caught fresh seafood. Many restaurants serving South Thai food can be found in Pra Ae and Saladan villages which you can reach by rickshaw.

What to do

Mini-parlours, where visitors can pay for manicure, pedicure and massage, operate right on the beach. Each of those costs 300 Thai baht or less.

The main road of the island, with hotels, shops, rental stores and tour agencies, is located about 500 m away from the beach.
