Essaouira beach

Located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, Essaouira Beach ranks 61 in the hundred best beaches in the world. This is one of the most windy places in Morocco. It is often used for international competitions in water sports. The beach is part of the urban area of the port city of Essaouira (the old name of the city is Mogador) located 160 km from Marrakech between Agadir and Casablanca. Another advantage of the beach is picturesque sunsets, panoramic views of the ocean.

Beach description

Essaouira Beach is a spacious golden sandy beach with a gentle entry into the ocean and a stable water temperature throughout the year.   The uniqueness of the beach is in the tropical trade winds blowing here called the 'Alize' and generating strong waves suitable for a comfortable occupation:

  • surfing;
  • winsurfing;
  • kiteboarding;
  • sailing.

Due to strong winds, this beach is often unsuitable for sunbathing, as fine sand sweeps along with the wind.

The lack of high-quality cleaning on the beach leads to the fact that in some of its areas you can see dirty sand and garbage. But there are well-groomed areas where the sand is always clean. There are rental umbrellas for sunbeds, stationary awnings.

In addition to water sports, there are attractions on the beach: horseback riding and camel riding, quad biking and quad bike riding, kayaking. The availability of free space allows you to play football and frisbee right on the coast.

The most convenient way to get to Essaouira Beach is by bus, taxi or rented car leaving Marrakech. Surfers of all levels, youth, couples without children and single travelers will like the beach.

When is the best time to go?

The beach season in Morocco opens in April and comes to a close in October. The best months to visit the resorts of this country are May-June and September-October.

Infrastructure

Essaouira Beach is a coastline not predominantly affected by tourism infrastructure. Nevertheless, the proximity to the seaport has contributed to the fact that some beach areas have minimal amenities like rental beach equipment, toilets and operating surfing centers. In Essaouira, there are several beach cafes and bars along the coast where you can enjoy a cup of the famous Moroccan tea with mint or just eat delicious local cuisine.

Tourists in Essaouira will not have problems with finding housing. There is a wide selection of hotels, rental apartments, villas. The hotel Heure Bleue Palais offers excellent conditions close to the beach: 35 comfortable rooms with ocean views, a parking lot, a restaurant, a bar, a gift shop and other amenities.
