Isla de Coiba beach

The Isla de Coiba Beach is located within the Panama National Park, on the large volcanic Coiba Island. There's no tourist infrastructure on the island. You can get to Coiba by boat from Santa Catalina.

Beach description

The enormous Isla de Coiba Beach is known for the cleanliness of its sandy surface and a smooth descent into water. The sea bottom of a long shallow patch and its inhabitants - starfish and schools of exotic fish - are visible through the transparent water. The warm current guarantees comfortable swimming experience. The water in the bay is relatively calm. Children will feel comfortable at Isla de Coiba.

The Isla de Coiba Beach is especially popular among divers. Several strong underwater currents are present in the water area of the island, which allows to watch various species of the sea fauna. You can encounter humpback whales, dolphins, orca whales, various kinds of sharks, barracudas, stingrays and tuna. A giant coral reef - the main goal of many divers - is located near the island. Breathtaking coral gardens with numerous kinds of crustaceans, clams, tropical fish of different colors and sizes are hidden in the bay waters.

It's recommended to visit the island as part of a tourist group.

When is it better to go

Favorable time for a beach holiday in Panama begins in the second half of December and lasts until April. Air temperature during this period does not exceed + 32 °C, water temperature – not lower than + 23 °C. It is noteworthy that in the Caribbean Sea the water is several degrees warmer than on the Pacific coast.
