Psili Ammos beach

Located on the eastern coast of Serifos, eight kilometers from Livadi, the main port of the island. It got its name thanks to the soft, fine sand that covers the entire coastline. This is one of the most popular and beautiful beaches of Serifos, and in 2004 and 2009 it was included in the list of the best beaches in Europe according to the Sunday Times.

Beach description

The beach is situated in a cozy picturesque bay surrounded with high hills and tamarisk trees. The beach is rather long (its length is around 600 meters), and covered with soft golden sand. The sea here is of the magnificent azure color, clear and transparent, with gradual depth increase. The bottom is even and safe, without sharp depth drops and large stones.

Winds are frequent on Psili Ammos, especially closer to the evening. At such moments, rather high waves rise that will make sailing, windsurfing and kiting fans glad. Habitual activities include water games, beach tennis and volley-ball, riding hydrocycles, sea kayaks, and sapboard.

Despite its popularity and populousness, Psili Ammos is not characterized by the developed infrastructure. There are no shower stalls, tamarisk brushwood serve as changing rooms, water closets are situated in beach taverns. You can also receive there sling chairs and umbrellas in exchange of purchased food and drinks but the most visitors take their own towels and go looking for natural shadow.

The beach central zone is the most busy, it has MANOLIS tavern with delicious food and fast high quality service In the northern part, there is another very nice tavern, Stefanakos, famous for its delicious desserts, and low prices.

The southern part of the beach is more secluded, it is usually picked by athletes, naturists, and people who prefer quiet and calm recreation. Here, one can engage in snorkeling, dive from the rocks, and hide from heat in small rocky grottos. There is an asphalt road leading to the beach with scheduled buses from Livadia going there. You can use a car or a motorcycle but you should not forget that the parking lot is not so large. There are always many people wishing to go to Psili Ammos in the high season (July-August). That is why it's better to come earlier to manage to occupy a comfortable corner in the shadow of tamarisk and to park your transport.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
