Beach description

The beach is long and spacious enough, covered with soft golden sand and surrounded with majestic mountains. The sea here is of the magnificent azure color, clear and transparent as a tear. Strong winds and, respectively, high waves occur here extremely rarily, so it's very comfortable to have vacations here with small kids.

It's better to come to this beach early because it has no parking lot, and it may happen taht you won't room for your car. Moreover, the number of sling chairs and tents is also limited, and not everyone will have a chance to to use them. With regard of the fact that the beach has no natural shadow, the tourists should not forget to take sun umbrellas. Don't forget to take special rubber shoes: by noon, sand becomes very hot, and in the northern part of the beach, on the bottom, slippery boulders and sharp stones occur.

The beach has a snack bar and a tavern, and a small store where you can buy ice cream and drinks at low prices. The lounge bar of the hotel Coco-Mat with its cozy open veranda, live music, and exquisite cocktails uses high popularity.

Concerning entertainment, Vagia offers standard water games, and sea tours along the beach and to neighboring islands. Sports equipment rent stations and tour offices work by hotels.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

Useful information

In addition to Vagia, in the Gulf of Koutalas, there are two more beautiful corners that are definitely worth visiting for active and inquisitive tourists. Two kilometers to the north is Ganema Beach, to which an asphalt road leads along the beach. Before the sign, you need to turn left and go down a little down a dirt path. You will see a wonderful sandy bay surrounded by emerald green tamarisk trees. It is not as noisy and crowded as on Vagia, the bottom is rocky in some places, and the sea is quite calm. The beach will appeal to divers, windsurfers and just lovers of secluded relaxation in the lap of nature. In the shade of the trees you can have a wonderful picnic, however, you will have to take care of everything you need on your own.

The road to the next beach is more complicated, a dirt path leads through the cape, on top of which stands the church of St. Irina. The observation deck offers a beautiful view of the picturesque bay, in which the village of Kutalas, the former capital of the island, lurks. Here, tired travelers can first take a break in one of the coastal taverns, and then explore the main attractions of these places – the Cyclops Cave and the ruins of the medieval castle of Kastro tis Grias ("the Castle of the Old Woman"). You can return by taxi to Vagia, the trip does not take more than ten minutes.
