Kata Beach, Phuket

Kata Beach is located in a small bay between green cliffs on the South-West coast of Phuket island. There is a bus running from the airport to Kata. Also there are bus routs connecting Kata with Phuket Town and Karon.

Beach description

The beach line 1.5km long and 70m wide is covered with fair sand, and it's nice to walk barefoot. The descent into the sea is flat, the bottom is sandy and clean. From December to February the water is calm, but during other seasons there can be quite high waves. During the low tide the big part of the bottom is showed up. Mountains covered with greenery protect the shore and water from the wind. On the Southern part there is a small grove. Hotels own part of the territory. It is more convenient to go to the beach by walking paths on the South and North sides, where there are parking lots.

Kata is a neat and clean beach. It's quite busy, but not crowded. Among the holiday makers are many tourists with children of all age. There are sun loungers, umbrellas, tourists can sit on towels under rented or own umbrellas.

While swimming tourists should be careful, however there are no waves, but are streams close to the shore.

When is it better to go

The best time for a beach holiday in Phuket lasts from November to April or May. The weather during this period is sunny, calm, the sea is calm, there are almost no waves. The height of the beach season falls on December, when a number of major international holidays are added to water activities. Prices for airline tickets, accommodation, services, food and transportation are at their maximum.

It offers magnificent rooms and villas, swimming pools, restaurants, SPA and fitness centers, jacuzzi and much more. Quite decent living conditions are also provided by 3 star hotels.

Where to eat

On Kata Beach and in the city there are a lot of places where tourists can eat, both from expensive restaurants to cheap makashitas. Also take away food is available. Dinners in the best Kata restaurants are very expensive, but there people can order various delicacies of international cuisine, listen to music, see bright shows. In the Center and in the Northern beach line are Russian restaurants.

What to do

Kayaks, jet skis, and boats can be rented on the beach. Tourists can do parasailing, scuba diving, diving, snorkeling near the cliffs from the both sides of the bay. Boat trips are popular. At the Northern end of the bay lies a small coral reef, which can be seen from the shore at low tide. In the Southern part of the beach is a surfing club Surf House with artificial wave. There are windsurfing lessons, equipment rental. Nearby the club is a new park with recreational areas, gazebos, exercise equipment, playground with slides. Also there are several massage saloons on the beach.

Useful information

Near the beach is a small Taoist family temple Po Seng Ti-Te with statues of Taoist deities and Buddhist monks. No less interesting place is a Kata temple complex with Buddah statue.

On the hill under the beach is a Kata Viewpoint where people can see impressive views on the shore and sea.
