Vieux Fort beach

Vieux Fort Beach - a beach on the small island of Marie Galante. Here is a good rest for lovers of history, peace and quiet. There are no dangerous insects, animals, warm water, the same warm nights. You can see many mills that Napoleon built, a plant that produces excellent rum.

Beach description

This solitary place stretches from turquoise sea on one side to the nearby road on the other. One of the quietest beaches in the country. Any traveller can find a solitary place only for themselves here.

The water isn't always calm, which is why the pink shoreline sometimes becomes soft and convenient for walking. Vieux Fort Beach is separated from the road by a wall of almond trees, so no traces of civilization make their way here. But be careful, as the highly poisonous manchineel trees grow behind the other nearby trees, and it's dangerous to even walk below them, let alone touch them.

The Vieux Fort village is known for its Textile Arts Center and the elegant embroidery traditions. It's located in a fort built by the first French colonists. Scenic surroundings and the lighthouse - local symbol - are easily seen from its height.

Tourists come here for calm strolls, solitary relaxation on the warm sand and romantic sunsets. Vieux Fort attracts visitors by:

  • Full solitude. Not many people come here, and loud activities are absent.
  • Sandy beach and tree shadows that protect from the sun.
  • Wide shoreline.
  • Toilets and showers, sunbeds, umbrellas.
  • Underwater swimming (but only if you bring your own equipment).
  • A restaurant right at the beach. Local hotels offer camping lunch for those interested. You can buy food in the shops located before the beach and set up a beach picnic.

When is the best time to go?

It is best to go to Guadeloupe from December to May, as the weather at this time is set dry and fresher than in other months. However, it should be borne in mind that in December, during the holidays, many tourists arrive to celebrate Christmas and New Year, which affects prices.
