Beach description
The beaches are covered in light sand mixed with stones. The descent into water is smooth and the sea bottom is covered in sand and stones. There are rental stores with sunbeds, umbrellas, water equipment for active leisure, snorkeling and parasailing on the beaches. Children and sports playgrounds are installed. There are shallow patches of water that are perfect for children. The water in the bay is calm and warm, which is uncharacteristic of the Atlantic. The mountain range that surrounds Gordons Bay protects the city and the bay from winds, so waves are a rarity here.
The beaches are popular among tourists and locals. A chain of relatively cheap hotels, guests of which comprise the majority of the beaches' visitors, is located on the coast and in the city. Locals and foreign tourists come to the beaches during the weekends.
Gordons Bay is located 30 minutes away from the airport. You can order a transfer to the hotel, or alternatively call a taxi or rent a car.
When is it better to go
The best time for a beach holiday and swimming on the coast of South Africa falls in the low season – from November to March. The water temperature in the Indian Ocean rises to + 23-25 °C, in the Atlantic – to + 18-20 °C. The air temperature reaches + 30 °C, but the fresh ocean breeze makes you feel comfortable.
