Beach description
Pure white sand, high waves and picturesque landscapes could make Hout Bay one of the best beaches in Cape Town, but chemical waste from enterprises is discharged into the bay, which upsets the region’s ecological balance.
Hout Bay is one of the popular surfer beaches. Large international competitions are held here, surfers from all over the world come to take part in them. There are several inexpensive restaurants with fish and seafood menus on the beach.
There are few campers on Hout Bay. Most of them are locals, surfers and tourists who came to the bay for the sake of fur seals.
Near the beach there is a small fishing port, from where you can go on an excursion to the island of fur seals or go to sea fishing with local fishermen.
When is it better to go
The best time for a beach holiday and swimming on the coast of South Africa falls in the low season – from November to March. The water temperature in the Indian Ocean rises to + 23-25 °C, in the Atlantic – to + 18-20 °C. The air temperature reaches + 30 °C, but the fresh ocean breeze makes you feel comfortable.
