Sandy Bay beach

Sandy Bay is a sandy-rocky beach in the bay of the same name on the Atlantic coast of Cape Town.

Beach description

The deserted coast, covered with sand and stones, was chosen by nudists. The bottom is sandy and rocky, but few decide to swim. The water is very cold, a strong current passes near the shore. You can swim in the stone tidal pools, where you can often find penguins. The mountains and picturesque sand dunes surrounding Sandy Bay are a natural protection from the wind, so the beach is usually quiet and calm. There is no infrastructure nearby.

You can get to Sandy Bay by taxi or rented car on the highway connecting Cape Town with Cape Point. There is a parking lot near the beach.

When is the best time to go

The best time for a beach holiday and swimming on the coast of South Africa falls in the low season – from November to March.  The water temperature in the Indian Ocean rises to + 23-25 °C, in the Atlantic – to + 18-20 °C. The air temperature reaches + 30 °C, but the fresh ocean breeze makes you feel comfortable.
