Beach description
The long and wide coastline, surrounded by dunes, is covered with fine white sand. The descent into the water is gentle, the bottom is sandy, the water is cool – not higher than + 18 ° C during the swimming season. The beach offers spectacular views of Table Mountain and the ocean.
The beach is recognized as one of the best surf spots for experienced surfers. For beginners, there are too steep waves and strong winds. Sunset Beach is crowded, with many locals and tourists alike. There are few swimmers, because sharks often swim in the coastal waters. Rescue services work. Behind the beach stretches a picturesque promenade with cafes, restaurants, night clubs. In the suburbs there are many hotels, apartments, guest houses, villas for rent.
Sunset Beach can be reached by bus, taxi, or rental car from anywhere in Cape Town.
When is it better to go
The best time for a beach holiday and swimming on the coast of South Africa falls in the low season – from November to March. The water temperature in the Indian Ocean rises to + 23-25 °C, in the Atlantic – to + 18-20 °C. The air temperature reaches + 30 °C, but the fresh ocean breeze makes you feel comfortable.
