Gammarth beach
The beaches of Gammarth, a famous respectable resort in the suburbs of the capital of Tunisia, about 10 km long, are located along the northern coast of the Mediterranean Sea.

Beach description
Sandy beaches covered with large golden sand prevail. Some of them are up to 300 m wide. Entry into the water is sloping gently. The bottom is sandy. Such places are preferred by families with small children and not very experienced swimmers. There are also rocky areas with a narrow beach line, rocky shore and bottom buried by stones. The sea near the coast of Gammarth is calmer than in Hammamet or Djerba. High waves, comfortable for surfers, rise often.
The beaches have a developed infrastructure with rental of beach equipment, cafes, diners, restaurants. A network of prestigious hotels and villas with well-kept beach plots stretches along the coast.
Gammarth is not the most popular resort. Wealthy tourists from Western Europe, Canada, the USA that stay here prefer to swim on hotel plots. There are no Russian tourists. The beaches are half empty and very quiet.
The center of the capital is 18 km away from Gammarth. In 5 km – the ruins of Carthage with the Punic grave of Tophet, thermae of Emperor Antoninus Pius, Roman villas, antique theater, ancient ports. The picturesque Andalusian village of Sidi Bou Said is situated on a hill by the Gulf of Carthage. Gammarth can be reached from Tunisia Airport, which is 10 km from the resort, on taxi or bus. Intercity buses, shuttles and trains run from Monastir Airport to Gammarth.
When is it better to go
Tunisia is located in two climatic zones — tropical and subtropical. The swimming season opens in May and lasts until October. During this period, the least amount of precipitation falls, calm weather prevails, the sea is calm, and a storm rarely occurs. In July and August it becomes especially hot. Air temperature exceeds +40°C. In August, it sometimes storms.
