Raf Raf beach

Raf Raf Beach is one of the most beautiful places in Tunisia, located in a small bay on the north coast of the country, surrounded by picturesque rocky peaks, 30 km away from the resort of Bizerte.

Beach description

The rocky crescent-shaped coastline, covered with fine white sand, tightly covers the sea, forming a landscape of amazing beauty. The uneven, sandy-rocky bottom can be seen through clean and transparent water down to the smallest detail. Entry into the water is uneven. Steep areas alternate with sloping ones.

The sea in the bay is calm, very warm. In hot weather, a light refreshing breeze blows from the sea. The beach is sheltered by a mountain range from the hot air currents of the Raf Raf desert.

The beach is extremely popular with Tunisians, but is almost unknown to tourists, so it is always half deserted. There are many lovers of diving, snorkeling and active entertainment among the holidaymakers. There is an opportunity to do paragliding, windsurfing, yachting, go water skiing. You can ride on horses and camels along the coast. Ghar El Melh lagoon with crystal clear water, located near Raf Rafa, deserves a special mention.

Raf Raf is not the best place for swimming with children. The way through the mountains to the beach is exhausting and there is no infrastructure for children.

It is quite difficult to get to Raf Raf beach by yourself. Best option is to book the excursion through an agency in the hotel or resort.

When is it better to go

Tunisia is located in two climatic zones — tropical and subtropical. The swimming season opens in May and lasts until October. During this period, the least amount of precipitation falls, calm weather prevails, the sea is calm, and a storm rarely occurs. In July and August it becomes especially hot. Air temperature exceeds +40°C. In August, it sometimes storms.
