Frikes beach

Calm fishing harbor in the north of Ithaca will meet you with a picturesque backdrop of lush mountains, crystal clear water and local color, which is presented in the form of small fishing villages with a population of up to hundreds of people scattered along the beach. The originality and virginity of these places is their main feature. If you want peace and quiet - go here. And although there are plenty of tourists here during the peak season, there are still fewer tourists than at the popular Filiatro.

Beach description

The beach of Frikes is located 18 km from the capital of the island - the city of Vati. This is a shallow pebbly beach with white stones and clear waters. It is ideal for family time. Moored boats can be seen near the beachline, which run to the island of Lefkas and other ports in northern Kefalonia. In fairness, it is worth noting that there is not even one beach, but three! There are within walking distance of Frikes Harbour on the road to the village of Kionia.

Pebbles on this coast are medium in size, so if you don't want to feel discomfort, take your comfortable shoes with you. But for people with flat feet, this advice should be ignored: barefoot pebbles walking - the best therapeutic massage. Besides, it's free.

The rock formations on the left side protect the beach from the west wind, so it is quiet and peaceful. Accordingly, there are no rough waves either. Swimmer can enjoy the smooth, natural dynamics of the water surface that does not create obstacles in the way.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

Infrastructure

Frikes beach is a wild beach. There are no sun loungers, parasols and other amenities. However, the role of natural shade is played by green hills that protect this site not only from the winds but also from the scorching sun. There is even a pulled sun awning in the first bay from the harbor.

In the village itself there is an equipped embankment. Truth be told, it is small in size, but quite good for hiking and a picnic (benches and lanterns are installed directly on it). There are also local taverns on the waterfront: no pathos and luxury but always fresh fish and friendly staff.

In Frikes, in addition to rented apartments and guest houses, there is a hotel. Hotel Nostos is 200 meters from the beach and offers a swimming pool with sun loungers and umbrellas, as well as air-conditioned rooms with views of the Ionian Sea or the mountains, a restaurant and pool bar. Free WiFi is available throughout the hotel.
