Piso Aetos beach

Located in the southwestern part of Ithaca next to the port of the same name, connected by ferry to Kefalonia and other nearby islands. Despite the proximity of the port, Piso Aetos has not lost its charm and is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches of Ithaca.

Beach description

Heavy olive groves descend directly to the shore, which is why the sea acquires an amazing emerald shade, effectively matching to snow-white pebbles. There are practically no waves and strong winds here, and in the rocks, in shallow waters, you can find a variety of marine life species. However, you will have to take care of the necessary equipment for diving, as well as food and beverages on your own, as there is no infrastructure on the beach.

You can reach Piso Aetos on foot from the port, the road won't take more than five minutes. Active and inquisitive tourists can visit Alalcomen acropolis, which is located on a high hill just above the beach (a rather steep stony path leads to it from the port).

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
