Aphrodite beach

Aphrodite Bay is the most beautiful beach in Cyprus. It combines snow-white cliffs and a bright blue sea, clean air and mild climate, calm atmosphere and well-developed infrastructure. People come here to take beautiful photos, join the ancient Greek culture and feel like heroes of the Iliad.

Beach description

Aphrodite Bay is a pebble beach located in the southwestern part of the island of Cyprus. It is surrounded by rocky mountains of light gray color. Enormous boulders, lush grass, tropical shrubs and evergreen trees are scattered along its coast. The main decoration of this place is sea cliffs, reaching 10-15 meters in height. Also, the beach is loved for smooth differences in height, bright blue waters, clean air and a calm atmosphere.

Aphrodite's Bay is an ideal place for walks, picnics and dates. Here wedding ceremonies are held, photo shoots are organized, sports are played. People come here to take a sun bath at the top of the sea cliff, take a walk with pets, enjoy the peace and quiet. But the beach is not suitable for swimming due to a sharp set of depth, cold water and underwater currents.

Important: do not let children swim in the sea here. It is dangerous even for an adult.

The ancient Greeks believed that it was here that Aphrodite, the goddess of love and care, came out of the foam. According to legend, she was born near Petra tou Romiu, the largest rock of the beach. This myth is believed even nowadays. Many tourists go through rituals to receive the favor of the daughter of Zeus. They look for stones that look like hearts, come here to bathe at midnight, or swim three times around Petra tou Romiu.

The main contingent of the beach consists of couples in love, newlyweds, foreign tourists and active travelers. Here you can always find a secluded place, but the most beautiful locations (observation platforms, spacious plateaus by the sea) are filled with vacationers at 8-9 a.m. The best time to visit the beach is during sunrise and sunset.

Another beautiful legend is connected with the bay of Aphrodite: during the time of the Byzantine Empire, Crete attacked a fleet of Saracens. To save his people from the oppression of the pagans, the hero Digenis Akrit picked up the heaviest stone and threw it at enemy ships. So in the middle of the sea appeared the rock of Peter Tu Romiu.

When is it better to go?

The holiday season begins in Cyprus at the end of April, when the water in the sea warms up enough to feel comfortable for swimming. June – is the most comfortable month for relaxation: the temperature is pleasant, up to 26 to 30 degrees, the sea breeze freshes and tones up. In July-August, the island becomes too thick and glowing, but in September-October, comfortable conditions turn back again.
