Lara beach

Lara Bay is located on the northwest coast of Cyprus near the city of Paphos on the Akamas Peninsula. This is a unique nature reserve of Cyprus, and indeed the entire coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Breathtaking scenic views, the amazing sound of the sea, the rumble of fast waves and the desert of this place creates a sense of paradise with an incredible ecosystem. For centuries, two rare species of sea turtles live on the beach:  alligator snapping and giant green.

Beach description

In the caves of Akamas, monk seals live, which are an endangered species. You can also meet a ghost crab, choosing only clean water for life. Often Lara Bay is called Turtle Beach, from May to August, marine inhabitants, after whom the beach is named, lay eggs in the sand, carefully guarded by employees of the Lara Bay Turtle Conservation Station research center.

Lara Bay Beach is called a very cozy and beautiful place in Cyprus, but getting to it is not easy. You can get to the coast from Paphos only by SUV or by boat on the sea.

Swimming at this beach and the surrounding area can be a bit uncomfortable. Due to the constant fast and high waves, sand and a large amount of algae rise from the seabed. Although the water is crystal clear and entry into the water is quite flat. But walking along the coast along the soft fine light yellow sand and admiring the local beauties is unforgettably beautiful.

There is no developed infrastructure on Lara Bay, there is no shower or cafe around, therefore it is recommended to bring drinking water and food with you. Despite the fact that admission is free, in the summer, during the laying of eggs by turtles, access to the beach is allowed only with excursions. Overnight at the campsite is not allowed. There is not much shade on Lara beach, however, it is forbidden to install beach umbrellas or use sun loungers.

When is it better to go?

The holiday season begins in Cyprus at the end of April, when the water in the sea warms up enough to feel comfortable for swimming. June – is the most comfortable month for relaxation: the temperature is pleasant, up to 26 to 30 degrees, the sea breeze freshes and tones up. In July-August, the island becomes too thick and glowing, but in September-October, comfortable conditions turn back again.
