Lichnos beach

The fragrance of olive groves, majestic cliffs dissecting the sea, the clear azure of the Ionian Sea and developed infrastructure - all this will offer its guests the beach of Lichnos. If you are relaxing in Parga but want to enjoy peace and tranquility by the sea you definitely must choose Lichnos Beach! It is not as overloaded and noisy as a city beach or Valtos, but at the same time no less clean and equipped. This place is for those who value harmony with the world around them and at the same time, comfortable conditions for relaxation.

Beach description

Lichnos Beach is a pebbly beach 2 km from Parga. The fine and smooth pebbles will give you a free massage of the foot and internal organs, so don't rush to put on your rubbers shoes when you walk on the beach.

If you decide to come here with kids - think ahead and take their favourite toys. The fact is that the beach is not sandy, they will have nowhere to dig and show their architectural skills. Besides, despite the fact that the bottom of the shore is flat and gentle, already after 3 meters the depth begins. Therefore, it is not desirable to let the children themselves go into the water.

The water is transparent and clear. You can see a lot of interesting things on the sea bottom, so grab a mask.

You can get to the beach in several ways:

  • Across the hill from Parga. The road will take about an hour (maybe more if you walk slowly). It is better to wear comfortable rubber shoes, because the path is stony and uneven.
  • By water taxi from Parga for 10 euro.
  • By rented car, taxi or bike.

You can park transport in the parking lot of one of the restaurants.

As noted by vacationers, in the peak of the season - in August - the beach is overcrowded. That's why it is better to be here early to take a seat. The rest of the time, there is also an impressive number of tourists, but they are much less than on Valtos or the city beach.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

Infrastructure

The beach is top notch. It has several cafes and restaurants, as well as even a small market (on the territory of one of the taverns) with fresh seafood, where you can cook your favorite delicacy.

Sun loungers and umbrellas belong to the catering points located on the beach. You can rent them for 7 euros for 1 day.

Tourists note the quality work of the waiters and cooks in this place. Most of all, for some reason, in local taverns, dishes such as spaghetti marinara, risotto and paliria salad are in demand. The most popular drink here is local rose wine.

The most popular hotel on the coast is named after the beach - Lichnos Beach. If you like the beach, you can book a room here so that you don’t have to travel a long distance from Parga every day.

Of the activities on the beach are water skiing, surfing and windsurfing, beach volleyball available. You can also try diving and snorkeling.

Useful information

  1. There is a special camping area on Lichnos Beach! In the shade of an olive grove, with a magnificent view of the sea, you can set up your own or rented tent and enjoy not only daytime landscape, but also sea sunsets. Add to that you will be able to save on renting a hotel room.
  2. Near the beach there is a small mini market. However, the prices in it are quite high – a sunblock costs about 20 euro. Therefore, it is better to take basic necessities with you, having previously bought them in Parga at a more reasonable price.
  3. Lichnos offers ideal conditions for fishing enthusiasts. Firstly, the fish swim right on the beach. You can step aside from vacationers, closer to the cliffs, and try fishing right on the beach. Secondly, pedalos and boats are rented on the beach on which you can sail away, and at the same time take an entertaining boat trip to the famous "Aphrodite's Cave", where, according to legend, the goddess of beauty and love bathed.
