Agia Pelagia beach

Agia Pelagia is a picturesque beach of Kithira of medium length, consisting of three bays. Its coast stretches along the village of the same name, which is located about 26 km northeast of the capital and has long been known as the main port on the island. With the authentic beauty of the ancient village of Agia Pelagia, it has a calm atmosphere and is famous as a great place for a family beach and sports vacation.

Beach description

The length of the rather wide coast of Agia Pelagia is only 400 m, but it is divided into small bays, each of which offers its own conditions for vacation. One of them has all the amenities for a comfortable stay on the beach, and in the other lovers of "wild" vacation and diving prefer to rest. There is also a free area of the beach, without sun loungers and umbrellas, where everyone can stay.

Also among the advantages of Agia Pelagia, which attracts tourists, are the following features of the area:

  • very clear waters of incredibly turquoise color and scenic surroundings;
  • the emerald belt of trees and other local vegetation surounding the coast, allowing you to hide in the shade, even in undeveloped areas of the beach;
  • soft and very fine gray sand on the coast and in the sea, mixed with white pebbles, the whiteness of which gets a dazzling shine in the sun;
  • absence of big waves and shallow waters at the shore, which allows you to rest here with kids.

Therefore, it is pretty crowded in the season. The beach volleyball competitions held here add to the popularity of this coast in summer.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

Infrastructure

This beach of Kythira became particular popular for its easy accessibility and well-developed infrastructure. The beach is located near the main highway on the way to the village of Agia Pelagia.

  • Near the beach there are many cafes and cozy restaurants where you can have a tasty snack.
  • In the recreation area, you can relax on the sun loungers under the shade of umbrellas for an additional fee.

The ability to find suitable accommodation in its vicinity also adds attractiveness to the beach. Every year more and more houses and apartments for vacationers are rented here, and new mini-hotels appear. For example, you can stay in the apartment hotel Romantica Hotel, which is only 100 m from the coast, or in Pantonia from which 2 minutes walk to the beach.
