Kalami beach

Kalami is a pebble beach located in the central west part of Kythira. Near it are beautiful cliffs, a village with traditional Greek architecture, an ancient monastery. These and other attractions are found on the way to the sea.

Beach description

Kalami attractes tourists with the warm water of the Ionian Sea, ideal conditions for diving and an almost complete absence of people. This place is loved for its silence, clean air with the scents of the sea, the richness of the underwater world. But the infrastructure is absent here (with the exception of a dirt road and mountain paths). You will need food and drinking water supplies for rest as well as collection bags to collect garbage.

Please note: the beach can only be reached through a narrow and steep path. This is a difficult way to get by car (the car will have to be parked at the monastery). But if you overcome the obstacles and go out to the sea, you will see a deserted shore, underground caves, huge rocks covered with moss and one of the beautiful bay of Greece. Believe that Kalami is worth your attention.

The road from the monastery to the beach takes 15-25 minutes. You can reach this place only by private car or taxi. Recommended time to visit Kalami: early morning or afternoon.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
