Beach description
If you are seeking a tranquil alternative to the bustling beaches of Agia Pelagia, then Fyri Ammos is the quintessential destination. Despite its popularity, this narrow yet extensive stretch of coastline is seldom crowded with tourists. There is always a secluded spot to be found, particularly given the coastal cliffs that offer pockets of privacy.
Fyri Ammos is renowned for its:
- Exceptionally clean and crystal-clear waters, earning the beach the prestigious Blue Flag award;
- Shallow and medium-sized multi-colored pebbles on the seabed, which glisten like jewels under the refracting sunlight when the water is exceptionally clear;
- Fine sand of a unique red hue, interspersed with pebbles of a similar shade along the shore;
- Steep coastal rocky hills of a reddish tint, forming a striking contrast against the backdrop of lush greenery with which they are partially cloaked;
- A quaint sea cave located at the right edge of the beach.
All these elements combine to forge a truly enchanting landscape, imbued with a sense of seclusion from the outside world. The coastal hills and cliffs provide shelter, ensuring that it is almost always calm with no high waves. The sea delights with its placid waters, the clarity of which allows for the admiration of the vibrant pebbles on the seabed, even from a considerable distance offshore.
When is the best time to visit?
The best time to visit Kythira for a beach vacation is during the late spring to early autumn months, specifically from May to October. During this period, the weather is most conducive for enjoying the island's stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters.
- May and June: These months mark the beginning of the tourist season. The island is less crowded, and the weather is pleasantly warm, making it ideal for those looking for a more tranquil beach experience.
- July and August: These are the peak summer months in Kythira, with the highest temperatures and tourist numbers. If you enjoy a vibrant atmosphere and don't mind the crowds, this is the time to soak up the sun and enjoy the bustling beach life.
- September: As the summer winds down, the temperatures remain warm but the number of visitors starts to decrease. This is a great time for those seeking a balance between good weather and a more relaxed environment.
- October: Early October can still offer good beach weather, though the sea temperatures may start to cool. The island quiets down significantly, providing a peaceful beach holiday for late-season travelers.
Ultimately, the best time for a beach vacation in Kythira depends on your preferences for weather, water activities, and crowd levels. Each season offers a unique experience on this beautiful Greek island.

Infrastructure
Near the beach, there is a parking lot where you can leave your car. This marks the end of the visible infrastructure. However, during the summer, the central part of Fyri Ammos occasionally hosts vendors selling ice cream and drinks, who also offer umbrella rentals, and there is a tavern open for the season.
The nearest cafes and restaurants are situated a few kilometers away from this picturesque coast. Therefore, it is advisable to visit Fyri Ammos in a rented car, allowing you to fully enjoy the local scenery, take a refreshing swim, and later drive to a nearby tavern just a couple of kilometers from the shore.
You can stay at the apartment Fyri Ammos in Agia Pelagia, which is only a few meters from the beach and approximately 800 meters from the village itself. Alternatively, the Maneas Beach Hotel in the same village is just a short walk from the coast.
