Kaladi beach

Kaladi is the most beautiful and most popular wild beach in Kythira. It is located on the eastern edge of the island, next to Paleopolis and about 15 km from its modern center. The difficult path to this coast is perfectly compensated by the incredibly picturesque landscapes of the coast and the unique atmosphere of a feeling of isolation from civilization that reigns in this paradise of Kitira.

Beach description

The clearest sea and the most beautiful scenery is what it is worth planning a vacation in Kaladi for those who are not afraid of the lack of amenities for a comfortable stay on the coast. The cliff in the sea divides this beach into two small narrow bays, giving it an omega-like shape. In addition to attractive landscapes, Kaladi beach is also famous:

  • clean waters with incredible transparency, which is why diving with a mask is very popular here;
  • the presence of sea grottoes, which combined with excellent underwater visibility, attracts drivers here as well;
  • significant shallow waters near the shore, very gentle approach to the water and lack of high waves, which allows you to rest here with children (but not very small - due to the difficulty of descending with them on the coast)
  • beautiful pebbles, which dominate both the coast and the water, although a small proportion of sand is also present.

The resemblance to the famous Cypriot beach considered the birthplace of Aphrodite, also adds appeal to the landscapes of Kaladi. Therefore, this coast is very popular among the lovers of colorful photos. According to such multifaceted attractiveness of Kaladi, it is not surprising that in the peak season there are always a lot of tourists here. Those who want to avoid crowds should come here at a different time.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

Infrastructure

People don’t go in search of developed infrastructure on the coast of Kaladi- it is actually not here. People come here for the sake of nature. Therefore, in order not to be disappointed with the lack of comfort, you should initially take care of it yourself taking with you everything that is necessary for this.

  • There are no cafes, bars and shops here, so you should think about food and water first of all going here.
  • You will also need umbrellas. Although coastal cliffs create enough shadow, it is still not recommended to be located directly below them due to the risk of their collapse.

You can stay in the apartment hotel closest to the beach – Kanellis Studios located about 1.9 km from the coast, or in Manti Rooms 2 km from the coast of Caladi.

Useful information

  1. To get to the coast of Kaladi, you have to go by car on a country road from the village of Fratsia, and then go along the beaten path and overcome the descent by a stone staircase in 120 steps. This is worth considering when planning a vacation here. It is still better for physically weak people and parents with very young children to abandon such an undertaking, given the lack of infrastructure (including lifeguards) on the beach as a whole.
  2. The presence of high coastal cliffs attracts water extremes to the beach of Kaladi – lovers of high and cliff diving, who hone the art of diving here.
  3. You should visit this beach at dawn to admire the most impressive colors of sunrise.
