Agia Irini beach

Agia Irini is a small beach in the Gulf of Parikia, located on the southwest coast of the island, just 4 km from the capital. The beach owes its name to the small church of St. Irina, standing nearby on a hill. The easiest way to get to Agia Irini is by taxi, rented car or motorcycle.

Beach description

The beach of Agia Irini is represented by two narrow sand areas: northern and southern, separated with a band of stone boulders and palm trees. In the high season, Agia Irini is ofter over-crowded, mostly the visitors are snorkeling and diving fans.

The beach northern part with shallow and quiet sea in the nearshore zone is covered with light sand and is absolutely suitable both for family vacation with children and for scuba-diving. In the high season, the beach restaurant serving local food is open, and umbrellas and sling chairs are installed on the territory of Agia Irini. Due to the large amount of palm trees surrounding Agia Irini its souther part resembles a tropical beach. Luxuriant vegetation does not only create exotic air but also brings natural shadow allowing you to hide from scorching sun.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
