Agia Marina beach

Located in the eastern part of the island and is a favorite vacation spot for tourists and residents of mainland Greece who come to Aegina. Marked with a Blue Flag. Next to it there is the old church of Santa Marina, in whose honor the beach and the village next to it are named.

Beach description

Although the area is very popular with tourists, the beach is big enough to fit everyone. Half a kilometre long coastline is covered with fine golden sand, the sea is shallow and clear, the bottom is sandy, entry into the water is gradual and comfortable. There is everything you need for a comfortable stay: comfy deck chairs, umbrellas and beach canopies, showers and locker rooms. Most of the people are concentrated in the centre, there are bars, taverns, music playing, powerboats and jet skis buzzing. Along the edges you can find quiet places, sit on your own towel and enjoy only the screams of seagulls and gentle sounds of the waves. But even there, tourists won't be able to hide from the vigilant eyes of lifeguards, who carefully monitor the order from the tower and warn of the slightest danger with whistles.

Southern pine trees growing on the surrounding hills approach the shore from all sides, and the promenade is decorated with exotic palm trees, in the shade of which it's nice to wait until midday heat. Sports and children's playgrounds, water equipment rentals, diving center and massage rooms are at guests' disposal. Visitors can have fun on water attractions, rent a boat, kayak or catamaran, surf and try stand up paddle boarding, which recently became popular, fly by parachute or paraglider.

Numerous cafes and restaurants right on the beach invite visitors to eat and refresh themselves with cool drinks, and in the beach bars you can dance or watch sports programs.

When is the best time to go?

Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season  begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.

Infrastructure

In the evening, the waterfront turns into a noisy youth party, music comes not only from entertainment establishments, but also from yachts moored in the harbor. On any of them for a fee you can go to the open sea, enjoy the sunset, arrange a disco with champagne, fireworks and night bathing. The music does not cease until late at night and, of course, this should be taken into account when choosing the right accommodation.

One of the most optimal variants is Isidora Hotel, named after its hospitable hostess. Located on a quiet street in one hundred meters from the beach. A few steps away are bars, restaurants, a bakery and a supermarket. Guests can use the Crystall bar pool adjacent to the hotel, as well as parking. Near is the coniferous forest, there it is nice to walk by foot or travel by bicycle. The rooms are equipped with kitchenettes and fresh homemade cakes are served for breakfast.

Useful information

Since the island of Aegina is small, it is not difficult to get to Agia Marina. There is a regular bus service from the port, you can take a taxi even faster. On the way, it is worth exploring local attractions, but it is better to set aside a whole day for them. The Temple of Aphaia (Athens), two kilometers from the village, deserves particular attention. It is not inferior in beauty to the famous Acropolis and is the main pearl of the island. In August, colorful theatrical performances are dedicated to this goddess on the beach.

You also should definitely take a ride around the surrounding villages, take a walk along their old authentic streets and enjoy the unusually tasty pistachios, which are famous for these places.
