Marathonas beach
Located in the western part of the island of Aegina, only five kilometers from its capital. The beach is divided into two parts by an improvised stone breakwater, to which fishing boats moor. From here you can go sea fishing or take a walk to the three small islands opposite Marathonas. By the way, they not only delight the eye with their beauty, but also protect the bay from seasonal winds.

Both areas of the beach are equipped with sun loungers, canopies and everything you need. There are lifeguard towers, a medical station, volleyball courts, water attractions.
The coastline is not wide, but rather long and twisting. Golden sand with inclusions of fine pebbles allows you to sit comfortably on towels, and the crystal clear shallow sea with a gentle entry attracts holidaymakers with young children.
There are numerous bars and taverns along the coast. Many of them offer the visitors free deck chairs in the shade of exotic palm trees, where you can comfortably wait out the midday heat.
It won't be a problem to find accommodation near Marathonas – a few minutes from the sea, there are a lot of hotels for every taste and budget. Free parking is provided next to the beach.
A regular bus runs from the city of Aegina to the beach, but it's not much more expensive and faster to get there by taxi (about 7-8 euros). The beach is also accessible by speedboats from other resorts on the island.
When is the best time to go?
Greece - a country with a long length from north to south, so the recommendations will vary depending on the place where you are going. The holiday season begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
