Baltiysk City beach

Until the 1990s, Baltiysk was a closed city, with entry permitted only by special invitation. However, in the 2000s, these restrictions were lifted, allowing every Russian to enjoy vacations on the city's beach. Foreigners, though, must still coordinate their entry. While Baltiysk is not a traditional resort town, it annually attracts tourists and locals alike. They come not only for the beach vacations but also for the traditional parade of the Baltic Fleet ships, an event dedicated to Navy Day.

Beach description

Baltiysk City Beach, nestled in the same-named city, graces the westernmost edge of Russia along the picturesque Baltic Sea coast. Merely 50 km from the bustling city of Kaliningrad, this coastal retreat offers a serene escape.

The expansive Baltiysk City Beach boasts a diverse coastline. Adjacent to the water's edge lies a stretch of fine, soft yellow sand, which transitions into a verdant tapestry of aromatic herbs, vibrant flowers, and dog-rose bushes after a mere 10-15 meters. This natural mosaic paints a breathtaking scene for beachgoers.

The approach to the sea is gentle and even, yet the water near the shore reaches a significant depth. The sandy seabed provides a safe environment for swimming. Typically, the water temperature does not exceed 25°C, even on the warmest days. The tranquil, bright blue Baltic Sea is known for its calmness, with high waves being an infrequent occurrence. The coast reveals its full splendor at sunset, bathed in the sun's brilliant rays.

Spanning 42 km, Baltiysk's sandy beaches offer ample space to savor the sea views without the throngs of holidaymakers. This spot is cherished by the youth, the elderly, and families with children alike.

It's important to mention that this beach remains unspoiled by development, lacking nearby infrastructure. However, it's this very wildness that adds to its charm. Additionally, the shores of this part of the Baltic Sea are known for yielding amber, particularly after low tides and storms.

It's important to note that the Baltic coast can be quite unpredictable, and even during these months, the weather can change rapidly. Therefore, it's advisable to check the forecast and pack accordingly. Regardless of the month you choose, the Baltic coast's unique charm and beauty are sure to provide a memorable beach vacation.

Useful information

The city beach is especially attractive with the promenade located above the beach. The pedestrian boulevard stretches from the local port to the pier, which goes far into the waters of the Baltic Sea, next to it there is the city beach. There are two sights which decorate the coast: a monument to Empress Elizabeth Petrovna and a monument to the wife of a sailor. It is impossible to go down to the sea along the promenade, because the coast is littered with concrete dumps, breakwaters, creating a unique panorama for photo.

In addition to a beach holiday in Baltiysk, you can organize an excursion, visiting the most interesting places in the city:

  • The abandoned military aerodrome Noitif, built by the Germans during the war. It is recommended to visit this place with a guide who knows safe places for access.
  • Baltic lighthouse was built in 1813-1816. It is unique by the fact that the object still works, giving light signs. The lighthouse is attractive in the evening and at the night.
  • Fort West: once it was defending building in the westernmost point of Russia. Nowadays only ruins remained from the object, which still impress with grand scale.

Near the ruins of the fort there is also an observation tower, from which a magnificent view of the Baltic Sea opens.
