Zolotoy beach

Zolotoy Beach in Zelenogorsk is one of the finest coasts in the Leningrad region and is particularly beloved by both Petersburgers and visitors to the city. Situated on the northern edge of the Gulf of Finland, approximately 60 km from the center of St. Petersburg, the beach is renowned for its golden-hued sand dunes. The unique softness of the sand here attracts numerous vacationers, even with minimal infrastructure. Additionally, the proximity of a vast park further enhances its popularity, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a picturesque beach vacation.

Beach description

Compared to Laskovy Beach, the coast at Zolotoy Beach is more compact - spanning only 400 meters - but it is quite expansive, reaching up to 120 meters in width. The shore is adorned with fine, light sand of a golden hue, which retains warmth down to a considerable depth, making it ideal for indulgent sand baths. Encircled by a coniferous forest, the beach offers a harmonious blend of sea air and pine scent, creating optimal conditions for the prevention of respiratory ailments during your stay.

There are several noteworthy features to consider:

  • Unlike many other beaches near St. Petersburg, Zolotoy Beach offers a deep swimming area, despite a substantial shallow zone near the shore where the water entry is gently sloping. This makes it a preferred destination for those who wish to eschew the shallow "frog" beaches and enjoy diving along the coast of Zelenogorsk.
  • The seabed is sandy and even, and the water is clean and exceptionally clear, offering an excellent opportunity for snorkeling, if it weren't for one particular detail.
  • Like most beaches in the Leningrad region, swimming at Zolotoy Beach is not officially recommended due to the water not meeting all sanitary standards. However, this advisory seldom deters the many holidaymakers who flock to its shores.

The beach is well-maintained with all the essentials for a perfect beach day, further enhancing the allure of Zolotoy Beach. On weekends, the beach can become quite bustling, so those in search of tranquility are advised to visit on weekdays.

When is the best time to visit?

The best time to visit the Baltic coast of Russia for a beach vacation is during the summer months, specifically from June to August. This period offers the most favorable weather conditions for enjoying the seaside.

  • June - The beginning of summer brings milder temperatures and longer days, perfect for beach activities and exploring the coastal towns.
  • July - Typically the warmest month, July offers the best chance for sunbathing, swimming, and water sports. The water temperature is also at its most comfortable.
  • August - While still warm, August signals the end of the peak season. Visitors can enjoy the warm weather with fewer crowds, making it ideal for a more relaxed vacation.

It's important to note that the Baltic coast can be quite unpredictable, and even during these months, the weather can change rapidly. Infrastructure

A variety of services is available for vacationers at the beach, including:

  • Benches for resting, strategically placed along the shoreline;
  • Facilities such as toilets, changing cabins (located on the left side of the beach), and complimentary showers. However, the limited number of showers may not suffice for the large number of beachgoers;
  • A well-equipped children's playground.

The primary drawback is the shortage of sunbeds, awnings, and umbrellas, which can be inconvenient for sunbathers. Additionally, there is no designated car parking area. Nearby, seasonal kiosks offer refreshments like drinks and ice cream.

For a more substantial meal, visitors can dine at a café or restaurant within the adjacent recreation park. There are also several upscale restaurants on the eastern fringe of the beach. The closest accommodation is the charming "Terijoki Resort Hotel", situated a mere 200 meters from the beach.

Useful information

  1. You can get to the beach from St. Petersburg by buses and mini-buses No. 211, 305 and 680. They run from different areas of the city, but all reach the city park in Zelenogorsk. Then you just need to go through the shady alley to get to the very coast, from where you can clearly see the park ferris wheel. A suburban electric train from the Finnish railway station also runs here, about 50 minutes to the railway station, from which it is 2.5 km from the beach. You will have to walk them through or ride a passing minibus.
  2. Those who ride their own car should consider that certain difficulties may arise, where to leave it. The nearest available car parking is located near the yacht club, from which you need to walk about 500 m more from the beach. If there are no places, then you will have to leave your car at the Primorskoye highway, from where you have to walk about 1 km to the coast.
  3. Zelenogorsk City Park is a great place for vacation next to the beach. Here you can find a wide range of entertainment, from rising on the ferris wheel to a game of mini-golf. There is also a rope park, beautiful fountains, various attractions, sports grounds, as well as an interesting park sculpture – shoes of an unnamed summer resident, which everyone can try on and take a photo in them. At the entrance to the park is a retro car museum, a mini zoo and a wind tunnel, as well as go-karting. Near the western edge of the beach there is a yacht club.
