Svetlogorsk Beach
In addition to the white sand and the crystal clear sea, Svetlogorsk beach is famous for its funicular, an abundance of vibrant architecture, interesting relief and huge size. Svetlogorsk beach is located in the resort of the same name, 44 km northwest of Kaliningrad. Its length exceeds 3 km, and width varies from 5 to 25 meters. This place has the following features:
- 1.5-kilometer promenade of wood and stone, covered with perfectly even tiles and equipped with lanterns. It rises above the beach by 3-5 meters and is ideal for walking;
- relief - the beach is separated from the city by a large cliff. A steep, winding and insanely beautiful road built by the Prussians leads to it. Following this path, you will enjoy the beautiful scenery from a bird's eye view;
- spectacular terrain - the beach is surrounded by dense trees, endless sea and luxurious buildings erected during the period of the German Empire, the Soviet Union and modern Russia;
- a modern funicular delivering tourists to directly to the sea. The length of the route is 175 meters, the ticket costs 50 rubles (as of 2019).
Local beach is covered with soft and light sand with a small admixture of stones and shells. It is characterized by a gradual increase in depth, a soft sea bottom, weak waves and an almost complete absence of water. The best time to visit Svetlogorsk is late spring and the first half of summer. In this period there is almost no rain. The highest fallouts are observed in August.
90% of the beach is free of trash. Its territory is cleaned several times a day. Garbage bins are installed along the entire coast to maintain cleanliness. But the situation is worse with crime - more than 1000 offenses are annually recorded in the city (mainly of small and medium gravity). Theft and fraud of tourists are widespread on the beach. To avoid problems, it is recommended to attentively monitor things and not conduct business with strangers.
The entire coast is dotted with small pieces of amber. It appears with seaweeds after storms, which sea brings ashore. Tourists are allowed to collect fossil tar and take it out of the region as souvenirs.
Svetlogorsk beach is suitable for vacation with children, thanks to shallow and absence of dangerous objects. People also come here to sunbathe, refresh themselves in the sea (its temperature varies from 17 to 22 ° C), enjoy walking and stare at the ancient architecture. Some restaurants of the city prepares German cuisine from the time of William II.
Sad fact: Svetlogorsk beach has narrowed significantly due to the massive development of the coast and the violation of its natural environment. Some environmentalists predict its complete disappearance after 15-20 years. Local authorities are struggling with the problem by creating mounds of sand. When is the best time to go?
The Baltic coast is not the warmest place with respect to air temperature or water temperature. However, from July to September, the warmest and most comfortable period in the Baltic comes: fifteen degrees Celsius will be a stable mark. But remember that in late spring - early summer, the Baltic Sea may “bloom” due to the abundance of plankton: water becomes cloudy and saturated green. During this period, swimming will be unsafe and rather unpleasant.
