Beach description
In the quaint village of Yantarny, nestled in the western part of the Kaliningrad region, lies one of Russia's most splendid beaches. Stretching over 6 km with a generous width of 40 meters, the beach boasts soft white sand that rivals the finest resorts in Spain. The local waters shimmer with a light green hue and are crystal clear.
This pristine beach holds the distinction of being the first in Russia to receive the coveted Blue Flag award. This prestigious accolade is a testament to its clear water, unpolluted air, immaculately maintained territory, and exceptional ecological standards. As of 2019, Yantarny remains the sole resort in the Russian Federation to have earned this honor from the Foundation for Environmental Education.
Adorning the central stretch of the coastline is a wooden promenade with a flawlessly smooth surface. This feature enables visitors to traverse the beach in regular footwear, enjoy strolls with a stroller, and jog amidst the picturesque backdrop of forest, sea, and sand. The walkway is adorned with decorative lighting, casting a gentle and enchanting glow.
Adjacent to the beach lies a serene forest, offering respite from the summer warmth. It's a popular spot for picnics and leisurely walks. Winding hiking trails meander through the verdant area, where children's swings await in the most scenic spots. When venturing into these wooded retreats, carrying insect repellent is advisable due to the presence of mosquitoes and ticks.
The resort is known for its gentle waves and tranquil weather. The sea's entry is gradual, with depths starting at 10-15 meters from the shore. The absence of pits, sea urchins, and undercurrents ensures a safe environment. The sea bed is soft, allowing for comfortable barefoot strolls. The safety of beachgoers is vigilantly overseen by multiple lifeguard teams.
Beach season commences in June, as the water temperature reaches a pleasant 19℃, and extends until the end of August. January at the resort is warm but not excessively hot. Even at noon, hundreds of visitors can bask on the shore without any discomfort. The negligible temperature difference between the water and air renders the local waters exceptionally inviting for swimmers.
The beach is divided into two zones:
- Central area: Equipped with sun loungers and umbrellas, this section is ideal for relaxation. Situated near the heart of the village, it is flanked by premier establishments and offers a plethora of services. It attracts up to 80% of the beachgoers.
- Peripheral zone: This more secluded sandy stretch comes with essential infrastructure. It is the perfect setting for a tranquil retreat with loved ones.
Interesting fact: The beach underwent development after the Second World War. Historically, it was a site for amber extraction.
