Sestroretsk Beach

Sestroretsk Beach is a popular holiday destination on the coast of the Gulf of Finland in the vicinity of St. Petersburg. It is located on the shore of the resort town of Sestroretsk, famous for its many sanatoriums, and among all other city beaches it is considered to be one of the most visited. Due to the stable small waves, this beach is one of the best places in the vicinity of St. Petersburg for beginners to master kitesurfing.

Beach description

The coast of Sestroretsk beach, which stretches over 2 km, is also impressive in its significant width (up to 200 m in some areas), so there is plenty of room for vacationers, even despite the special popularity of the beach.

This beach is popular due to number of factors, including the following characteristics.

  • The coast is completely covered by very fine-grained clean sand of a golden shade, on which sometimes small grassy vegetation sometimes breaks through.
  • This beach scenery is completed by emerald cut of the entire coast with tall pine trees, the coniferous air of which mixes with the sea here, creating conditions not only for a beach, but also for recreation.
  • The forest park stretch along the coast protects the beach from city dust, so the air here is much cleaner.
  • The entry into the sea is very sloping here (even at a distance of several meters still very shallow) and sandy, which provides maximum safety when resting with children (including even babies).
  • The coastal pine grove “dampens” strong winds off the coast, and at a distance from the coast there are quite nice small waves form, attracting new kiters here. But when strong storm winds, it is forbidden to enter the sea.

When planning to relax here, it is worth to consider the main minus of the Sestroretsk coast - huge crowds of noisy vacationers. Especially crowded and noisy it is on weekends, so it is better to come here on weekdays. The season opens in May, and ends by the end of August, although the peak of vacationers falls in July. Although this coast is in demand among lovers of walking by the sea and in the winter.

When is the best time to go?

The Baltic coast is not the warmest place with respect to air temperature or water temperature. However, from July to September, the warmest and most comfortable period in the Baltic comes: fifteen degrees Celsius will be a stable mark. But remember that in late spring - early summer, the Baltic Sea may “bloom” due to the abundance of plankton: water becomes cloudy and saturated green. During this period, swimming will be unsafe and rather unpleasant.
