Dyuny beach

Nudist Beach Dyuny, the sole establishment of its kind near St. Petersburg, nestles close to a pension sharing its name along the Sestroretsk shore. Renowned as a favored retreat for naturism enthusiasts and ranked among the top 1000 nudist beaches globally, Dyuny also offers designated areas along its extensive coastline for those preferring to remain clothed. Thus, despite its moniker, Dyuny Beach stands out as a versatile and highly sought-after vacation spot in the St. Petersburg region.

Beach description

The first proponents of naturism on this expansive and sandy coast emerged in the 1960s. Despite having been officially recognized as a nudist beach since the early 1990s, debates continue, with ongoing efforts to discourage naturists from frequenting the area.

Nevertheless, the beach remains a haven for both naturists and traditional beachgoers in swimsuits alike, with designated zones catering to each group's preferences.

The popularity of this coast can be attributed to a variety of factors:

  • The broad sandy expanse, with its coarse golden sand and encircling pine forest, provides an idyllic setting for sunbathing, meditation, and scenic hikes along the picturesque coastline.
  • The gentle slope into the water, typical of most Sestroretsk beaches, and the sandy seabed make for a gradual wading experience. Depths exceeding knee-height are found only a considerable distance from the shore.
  • Given these features, the beach is well-suited for family outings with children. However, it is important to be mindful of the potential for strong waves (mitigated by an extensive breakwater) and to avoid entering the water during such conditions.

Although the water quality at Dyuny Beach does not meet sanitary standards, with noticeable algal blooms starting in late July, and swimming is officially discouraged, this does not deter those determined to take a dip. As a result, both adults and children can be seen enjoying the beach, albeit in smaller numbers in the water than on the sand. Despite the rather limited coastal infrastructure, the beach draws large crowds during the peak season, particularly on weekends.

Infrastructure

This beach boasts a partially developed infrastructure, offering essential amenities for a comfortable stay. When planning your beach vacation, consider the following features of the coast:

  • Toilets are available along the shore, albeit concentrated in a limited area. Given the extensive length of the beach, this can pose challenges for those situated far from the central hub of amenities.
  • There are no changing cabins, suggesting that the beach caters primarily to naturism enthusiasts. Additionally, there are no showers, umbrellas, or sunbeds provided.
  • Recreational facilities such as volleyball courts and children's slides are well-equipped and available on the shore.
  • At the heart of the beach, visitors will find a casual café where they can enjoy a meal. On weekends, the café comes alive with music and dancing. An ice cream stall is also conveniently located on the shore.

Parking is not organized on-site; therefore, those arriving by car should park near the sanatorium. For those seeking a luxurious stay, the opulent Skandinavia Country Club and SPA, situated 1.2 km from the coast, is an excellent choice. Discover more about this exquisite hotel at Skandinavia.
