Playa de Muro beach

Recreation for well-to-do tourists

Playa de Muro is an excellent choice for solo adventurers, groups of friends, or families with children. Nestled in the picturesque Alcudia Bay, it lies a stone's throw away from the historic fortress town that shares its name. As a segment of the vast natural expanse of S'Albufera de Mallorca, Playa de Muro boasts an extensive stretch of sand, crystal-clear waters, and exceptionally pure air, making it a perfect seaside escape.

Beach description

The total length of the coastline at Playa de Muro is 13 kilometers, offering ample opportunity to find a secluded spot. The beach is fringed by a dense pine forest, providing a refreshing coolness. The soft golden and white sands, combined with the lush greenery of the forest and set against the backdrop of the bright turquoise sea and blue sky, create an unparalleled atmosphere of serenity and tranquility.

Features of Playa de Muro

  • One of the main advantages of this beach is the gently sloping sea entry, extending up to 200 meters, making it ideal for children to play in the shallow waters.
  • Those who enjoy deeper waters will need to walk a bit further to swim and dive comfortably. The clean sandy bottom is free of sharp stones, eliminating the need for special footwear and reducing the risk of injuring your feet.
  • While in deeper waters, be cautious of jellyfish. They are not typically dangerous in the Mediterranean Sea, but contact with them can cause discomfort.

Playa de Muro is divided into three sectors:

  1. The sector closest to Alcudia, bustling with resort infrastructure, is favored by elderly couples and families with children. It tends to be quite crowded, especially in July during the peak of the high season. It is advisable to book your spot in advance, as renting a deck chair or a sun lounger with an umbrella can cost around €15. Experienced tourists recommend purchasing an umbrella to save a significant amount of money.
  2. The middle sector, approximately 2 km long and known as Es Brac or Playa de Muro II, boasts all the aforementioned advantages for a comfortable stay but is far less crowded than the first. It is preferred by couples and individuals seeking privacy.
  3. The third sector, known as Es Comu, is a picturesque expanse of dunes dotted with junipers, stretching over one and a half kilometers. The lack of nearby buildings makes this area quiet in any season, which is highly valued by those who enjoy secluded relaxation. The dense pine woods in this part of the beach can make access challenging, but parking lots are available near Es Brac and the Casetes des Capellans sector for easier entry to Es Comu.

When is the best time to visit

The best time to visit Mallorca for a beach vacation is typically during the late spring to early autumn months, when the weather is warm and sunny. Here's a breakdown of the optimal periods:

  • Late Spring (May to June): This is an ideal time to enjoy the beaches with fewer crowds and pleasant temperatures. The sea might still be a bit cool for swimming, but the weather is perfect for sunbathing and exploring.
  • Summer (July to August): These are the hottest months, perfect for beachgoers looking to spend most of their time in the water. However, be prepared for the peak tourist season, which means more crowded beaches and higher prices.
  • Early Autumn (September to October): The temperatures remain warm, but the crowds start to thin out, making it a great time for those seeking a more relaxed beach experience. The water is also still warm enough for swimming and water sports.

Regardless of the time you choose, Mallorca's stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and Mediterranean charm make it a fantastic beach vacation destination.
