Padang Padang beach

Padang Padang Beach (Padang Padang Beach) – a popular among surfers a small beach on the southern outskirts of Bali, better known among locals as Pantai Labuan Sait. This picturesque coast, surrounded by limestone cliffs, is located in the northwest of the Bukit Peninsula, next to the village of Pekatu and the popular Uluwatu region. The beach is one of the few places in the south of Bali where you can simply swim and not just surf.

Beach description

The length of the Padang-Padang coast is just over 100 m, but the picturesque scenery and excellent conditions for surfing have given this beach the glory of one of the most popular and most crowded in the south of Bali. Initially, it was a small lost world, but in the mid-90s. world fame came to him when episodes of the cult film "Eat, Pray, Love" were shot here. After that, the beach became a true Mecca not only for surfers, but also for romantics and lovers.

Attractions to this beach are also added:

  • high cliffs surrounding the coast and mossy boulders on the coast and in the sea;
  • fine white sand on the shore, which contrasts against the background of dark boulders, and a gentle entry into the water;
  • very clear and transparent azure waters with an emerald hue and foamy snow-white lambs during the surf;
  • the opportunity to enjoy a peaceful atmosphere in the evenings, because of the narrow coast, traditional Balinese parties are not held here

The bottom is rocky, and during the tides, most of the coast is hidden under water. This should be taken into account when vacationing at Padang Padang. In the rainy season ashore brings a lot of garbage, so in January-March this beach may not seem very attractive.

Padang Padang is one of Bali's world-class surfing beaches. Here, long three-meter waves are often formed, which surfers themselves call the “Bali Pipeline”. An analogue of such waves is found only in Hawaii. Given the strong currents and the presence of coastal cliffs and corals at the bottom, surfing here is designed for experienced conquerors of waves and is not recommended for beginners.

When is it better to go?

The air temperature throughout the year differs little and keeps within + 28-30 degrees. In the evening and at night, it is slightly cooler, but the thermometer rarely falls below +23 degrees. The water temperature is also stable. In order to avoid the rainy season (months from December to March), it is better to visit the country from May to August.

Useful information

  1. After leaving Jimbaran, you need to drive to the Garuda-Vishnu-Kenchan park, after half an hour from which you can see a sign towards Padang-Padang beach. You need to drive another 3.5 km to get to it. This section of the road passes through hilly terrain, but along a paved asphalt road. From the parking lot you should cross the road and walk down the slope. A narrow and steep staircase of 50 steps leads to the beach itself with an entrance through a hole in the cave. You can drive from the Uluwatu area to the coast in 10 minutes. It is worth considering that the entrance to the beach is paid, and the price is different for locals and tourists.
  2. On the way to the beach you can see the beautiful Labuan Sait temple on a rock, which also provides an excellent observation platform for admiring the colorful beach landscapes and amazing sunsets. But it is worth considering that there is a forest near, and next to the temple you can become a victim of the attack of long-tailed macaques. They are also enough in the parking lot, so you should not leave things there if you arrived on a scooter.
  3. In July-early August, the prestigious Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang championship among surfers is held on the beach. Next to the beach itself, it is worth visiting the Uluwatu Temple, which is famous for colorful evening shows.
  4. April-June is the best time to visit the beach. The period of the off-season from August to October will please those who wish to avoid the huge crowds of vacationers. In November, due to frequent rains, it is better not to visit it. Surfing is most relevant from June to September, but April-May are also suitable for conquering waves.
