Kardamena beach

Unlike the secluded and tranquil stretches of sand that characterize most Greek island beaches, Kardamena boasts a vibrant beach zone. Spanning 7 kilometers, this lively strip is nestled within the renowned resort town that shares its name, offering an energetic seaside experience.

Beach description

Along the shoreline, you can find both well-furnished beaches, complete with a host of entertainment options and developed infrastructure (umbrellas, sunbeds, etc.), serving local hotels, and secluded areas of the coast where you can spread a towel and retreat under the shade of numerous trees.

The beach near the village of Kardamena features a gentle entrance to the sea and is mostly sandy. Where the beach becomes more natural, the sand mixes with pebbles. The resort is known for its windy weather, which creates excellent conditions for water sports, making it a favorite among active youth.

You can take a bus from the capital, which runs twice a day, and also services the airport, picking up arriving tourists. Tickets cost 3.5 euros. By taxi, you will be able to reach your destination faster without being tied to a bus schedule; however, this convenience comes at a higher price. Alternatively, you can rent a car for greater flexibility during your stay. But if you're here to unwind, consider whether you should engage with a car rental service. The resort boasts numerous bars, tavernas, and clubs, where cozy tables and bar stands offer views of the sea at sunset, tempting you to savor a glass of exquisite Greek wine.

When is the best time to go?

The best time to visit Kos for a beach vacation is during the late spring to early autumn months, when the weather is ideal for sunbathing, swimming, and enjoying the island's natural beauty.

  • Late Spring (May to June): This period is perfect for visitors who prefer a quieter vacation with fewer crowds. The weather is pleasantly warm, and the sea temperature begins to rise, making it comfortable for swimming. The island's flora is also in full bloom, adding to the scenic beauty.
  • High Summer (July to August): These are the hottest months, with temperatures often soaring above 30°C (86°F). This is the peak season for tourists, so expect crowded beaches and vibrant nightlife. The warm sea and the bustling atmosphere make it a great time for those seeking a lively holiday experience.
  • Early Autumn (September to October): The temperatures start to cool down, but the sea remains warm enough for swimming. This period offers a good balance between the hot summer and the mild winter, with fewer tourists and a more relaxed environment. It's an excellent time for those who enjoy a peaceful beach experience with ample sunshine.

Regardless of the time you choose, Kos's stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters provide a memorable vacation. Just remember to book accommodations in advance, especially if you're planning to visit during the high season.
