Kefalos beach

If you're drawn to tranquil retreats where you can lounge on the sand without the fear of accidentally nudging your neighbor's head with your heel, then Kefalos is the perfect destination for you! This picturesque and serene beach offers ample space to unwind, and taking a dip in the crystal-clear sea promises to be a truly delightful experience.

Beach description

The fact is that the water here is very clean and warm, and the beach is spacious - over 5 km in length - with a sandy shore and a gentle descent into the water. This makes it an ideal playground for children, who can have fun and stay safe as they build sand castles, while parents can relax with sunbaths or enjoy the waves. A bit of information about the waves: there is a smooth but steady wind at Kefalos Beach, which is particularly beloved by surfers, as well as by enthusiasts of wakeboarding and water skiing.

It's easy to get to this beach. The settlement of the same name, located 20 kilometers from the airport and 40 kilometers from the capital of the island, is accessible by bus. Look for buses with signs reading 'Kefalos Village' (which goes to the village itself) and 'Kefalos Paradise' (which stops in the beach zone in Kamari Bay). If public transport is not your preference, you can opt for a taxi. Taxis are readily available at the airport and at Kos station. However, be vigilant! Taxi drivers may "forget" to turn on the meter and then charge a fare based on their own discretion. Always ensure the meter is running.

When is the best time to go?

The best time to visit Kos for a beach vacation is during the late spring to early autumn months, when the weather is ideal for sunbathing, swimming, and enjoying the island's natural beauty.

  • Late Spring (May to June): This period is perfect for visitors who prefer a quieter vacation with fewer crowds. The weather is pleasantly warm, and the sea temperature begins to rise, making it comfortable for swimming. The island's flora is also in full bloom, adding to the scenic beauty.
  • High Summer (July to August): These are the hottest months, with temperatures often soaring above 30°C (86°F). This is the peak season for tourists, so expect crowded beaches and vibrant nightlife. The warm sea and the bustling atmosphere make it a great time for those seeking a lively holiday experience.
  • Early Autumn (September to October): The temperatures start to cool down, but the sea remains warm enough for swimming. This period offers a good balance between the hot summer and the mild winter, with fewer tourists and a more relaxed environment. It's an excellent time for those who enjoy a peaceful beach experience with ample sunshine.

Regardless of the time you choose, Kos's stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters provide a memorable vacation. Just remember to book accommodations in advance, especially if you're planning to visit during the high season.
