Bang Po beach

Bang Po is a not crowded beach on the Samui Island with good infrastructure and varied landscape. On the beach visitors can find privacy and tranquility, good conditions for families with children, as well as decent panoramic views and viewing platforms.

Beach description

Bang Po Beach is located in the northern part of the Samui Island, it's 3km long, which makes it one of the longest beaches of the island. The slope and width of Bang Po practically don't change throughout the beach, but due to two drainage channels formed shoals that erode the coastline during the rainy season.

The bottom is shallow and unpleasant to touch, so the special shoes are needed; dependance on tides; and the accumulation of rocks and coral thickets makes Bang Po not the best example of a good beach for swimming. However shallow bottom and lack of waves guarantees the safety of children, guests of this shore, so Bang Po is quite popular among families.

Another advantage for small tourists is the abundance of deciduous trees and palms, which create sufficient shade, so the time on Bang Po can be easily spent without umbrellas. Moreover, visitors can't rent umbrellas and sunbeds not being the guest of one of the hotels.

When is it better to go

The period from November to March is considered the high season in Thailand. Comfortable air temperature, as well as minimal rainfall create optimal conditions for a beach holiday.

Infrastructure

Despite the fact that Bang Po has a significant disadvantage for a beach holiday: shallow sea, it remains popular and known for its tranquility and relatively developed infrastructure.

Bang Po can be divided into two parts: Western and Eastern. Authenticity and the spirit of life on the island visitors will find in the Western area of the beach, where few tourists rest and are located mainly fishing houses. And the coast of East Bang Po is dotted with hotels that carefully protect the privacy of their guests. However the main part of accomodation options is located at some distance from the beach, outside the beltway. The huge advantage of Bang Po is that this place offers accomodation from different price categories.

Here tourists will find the minimal set of facilities and activities: several laundries and shops, a lot of cafes and makushitas, which are food carts, with traditional cousine. On the beach there is also a children's restaurant, stylized for cartoon about Mickey Mouse. Due to the sea bottom peculiarities and shore sand there is no jet skis and other attributes of a beach holiday rental, but in some Band Po areas still there are massage houses and kayaks for rent.
