Lamai is a second most popular beach after Chaweng. It's impossible to describe Lamai in two words, because it differs from the rest of the island's beaches in its diversity. Lamai Beach is a crystal water, clean sand, wide shore line and depth which neighbours with shallowness and steep cliffs.
5 km Lamai Beach is divided into 3 parts: Central, Southern and Northern. The most pleasant and convenient entry into the water is the Central Lamai. The steep slope and depth make it independent of the tides, but in the period from December to February, the wind is possible, which contributes to the formation of quite strong waves. As moving from the center to the North, the bottom of the beach becomes shallow and dirty, so it's better to choose other places for swimming. As for the Southern Lamai, rocks and coral thickets make it difficult to enter the water, but due to the great depth, the tides are not dangerous.
When is it better to go
The period from November to March is considered the high season in Thailand. Comfortable air temperature, as well as minimal rainfall create optimal conditions for a beach holiday.

Infrastructure
Lamai amazes people with its infrastructure. The beach offers both places for parties and secluded places, because very different people come here for holiday.
Various activities can be found in the Central Lamai. Different cafes, bars and clubs, rental agencies (bikes, hydrocycles, banana boats, kayaks and etc.), shopping centers and shops, aquapark and many others. Here also located most hotels of different price, however it's better to book a room in advance, especially during a high season. Cheaper options are in some distance from the beach, in quiet alleys there are many inexpensive guest houses.
South Lamai located in a distance from vibrant life and crowds of people, so it's uninhabited and suitable for families with children and lovers of measured rest. Northern part is not very popular because of dirt and bad water entrance, but many people choose this part of the beach because of the silence, so there are many hotels and houses.
It's worth mentioning traditional fairs "Walking Street", which are organized throughout the island, including Lamai beach. Tai fair is held every Sunday from 15:30 to 23:00 and is a riot of colors, lights, laughter and incredible atmosphere. It is not just a fair where you can find souvenirs, clothes and traditional cuisine, it is also an opportunity to communicate with other tourists and locals.
